Title: Dyndns no longer free?
Post by: MM0YET on 2011-11-20, 18:06:52
It appears that a) my account with DynDNS has been cancelled due to inactivity, and b) it's no longer free to have an account with them.

Does the RemoteRig only support DynDNS still?

As I didn't have enough problems with this thing right now!

Think I've put this in the wrong section....

Do you have any suggestions for DynDNS alternatives?

Are the other problems also related to the RemoteRig?

Hi,

really looks like dyndns.org (now dyn.org) does not allow to register new accounts for free. But as long as you have a valid, free account that is updated regularly nothing changed.

Besides my free dyndns-Account I use no-ip.com as an alternative. Looks like they are still offering free accounts. But I think there are lots of other free providers out there.

Hi Simon,

Unfortunately, the RRC onyl accepts dyndns.org addresses and does not support alternatives,
such as no-ip.com.

Since dyndns.org has apparently recently changed their policy on their free accounts, it would
make a lot of sense for Mike and his team to support alternatives that are still free. See:
http://dyn.com/dns/free-vs-vip/ for the new dyndns.org policy.

Would be great for further dyn-dns operator problems if a manual config option could be added to the
firmware :-)

from RRC v2.48 we have introduced our own Dynamic DNS service. It's described in the manual.
