Title: General information about the project (brief)
Post by: SM2Z on 2009-01-04, 23:11:42
This remote control setup i basically an internet based extension of the separation cable between radio and front panel (e.g IC-706) allowing the operator to connect his front panel via an interface to the remote radio using virtually any internet connection.

It uses SIP, which is IP-telephony standard, to make the connection between the interface boxes on each side of the network. It will negotiate via a STUN server so both sides know the external IP addresses used if NAT routers are involved.

UDP ports used are:
5060 = SIP, standardport SIP. If you already use IP telephony this *might* be a problem.
11000 = RTP, Sound
12000 = Datachannel, Serial comms between front panel and TRX.

So, here is what you need to do:

Get a ICOM separation cable. Cut it in half. Connect each half of the cable to RJ45 connectors using these diagrams:

http://www.styrefors.se/sm2oan/remote/706-kabel.htm

http://www.styrefors.se/sm2oan/remote/bilder/cable706-Mod-1b.pdf

At this stage the interface boxes and cabling can be tested using  a crossover RJ45-RJ45 connector

If everything works, then the interface boxes need to be configured (assuming firewall / port forwarding issues have been solved)

Configuration will look like this (page in Swedish for now)

http://www.styrefors.se/sm2oan/remote/IC706konfig.htm

So, now you're up and running. You can work Phone, CW and digimodes using the RJ45 connector on the panel (IC-706). More on this later.

Interesting? Post a comment in the forum.

The foreign language parts of this forum will be updated if there is enough interest.

Hi
IC-7000 is only possible to control via CI-V CAT from HamRadioDeLux for example.
The screen information on IC-7000 is produced by Video signal.
