Title: IC706 and RRC-Micro
Post by: wq1k on 2015-05-05, 23:05:43
I just purchased the RRC-Micro interface and am not sure how to get it working with the IC-706 MKIIG.  I think I understand from another post that it is not possible to mix the RRC-Micro use with the "remote front panel" connection from another RRC1258, but I am confused as to why it is not possible to use them sequentially -- in other words, connect to the Radio RRC from the RRC1258 control unit with the attached front panel, then disconnect, and start a new connection from the RRC-Micro.

Perhaps the reason is that RRC Micro requires the panel to be mounted on the radio at the radio location, and powered on all the time?  If so, then remote front panel mode and RRC Micro are truly incompatible - but I didn't see that anywhere in the information before purchasing it :-(

It's not possible without going to the radio site, The design of the IC-706 is done the way that the frontpanel must be attached direct to the radio and the radio must be switched on for the CI-V interface to work.

This is no problem with IC-7100 and TS-480 as they are designed so that their radio part can work without a frontpanel attached.

Mike, thanks, I guess maybe it's time to upgrade to the IC-7100.

One quick question - my radio RRC-1256 shows serial number 4422 in the web interface. I can't figure out if that's the whole serial number or just the last four digits, and therefore I don't know if I need to worry about whether the unit will work with a new (current) IC-7100 or whether I need to get the special mod device from the webshop.  Thanks again.

The serial number which is important is the serial number of the IC-7100. All RRC support IC-7100 but if the IC-7100 is of the later serialnumber with the modifcation, you need the 1258M adapter in the RRC
