Title: RRC-Micro on Win 7 under VMware Fusion: Audio Buffer Instability
Post by: n6xi on 2016-12-29, 03:12:43
I am having trouble running RRC-Micro on Win 7 under VMware Fusion. It connects to the remote RRC, turns on the radio, the audio buffer fills, and the audio stream begins. Within a few seconds, the top green buffer bar  (under the label Default) drains down to empty, audio stops, and it takes a second or two for the buffer to refill and audio to start again. It cycles like this continuously.

RRC-Micro receives correctly on the same client-side network on a borrowed Lenovo machine running Win 7. But I don't own that computer and would really like to get RRC-Micro running on this Macbook Pro with Fusion.

I am attaching a Debug log of a session that lasted less than a minute and had several of these dropouts.

Thanks for any ideas you can offer.

Additional information on my request:

RRC-Micro 1.10.1.0
Dongle 1274B 3.0.1.0 Firmware 2
RTP 1.3.0

I got the same result using the VMware internal audio channel which drives the sound card in the Macbook Pro and using an external iMic sound card dedicated to the Windows virtual machine.

Understood. In case you care to know, this is the only Windows program I have had trouble with under VMware Fusion on the Mac. Writelog, N1MM+, Elecraft Utilities, Elecraft Remotes, DX4WIN, Microsoft Office, Chrome, PstRotatorAz, Ham Radio Deluxe, TRX Manager, LoTW tools and more all work normally, without special effort. Streaming audio and video work fine in various browsers, so the problem is not inherent in this type of application.

It would be nice to hear from anyone out there who has successfully run RRC-Micro in this type of environment. If no one can do it, then my dongle is for sale.
