Title: DNS status
Post by: Chris DL5NAM on 2010-12-29, 15:29:32
Hello, any info for a beginner?

DNS status   OK, remoterig.com = 193.202.110.161
(Found at Status window)

IP is from Denmark and owner is RemoteRig. What it means? That every activity from every RRC will stored in Denmark on a server ?
(WikiLeaks or "Big brother watching you" ;D)

It's not working that way

The RRC will contact your own dns to see if it can resolve the IP to remoterig.com. It will not even contact the IP it resolves.
It is a way to find out the DNS settings are OK in your box. If it can resolve remoterig.com it will probably be able to contact your Radio-RRC also if you use for example DynDNS which needs a working DNS.

Also, remoterig.com is only used as long as the SIP contact isn't a host name. As soon as the SIP contact is a host name(not empty, nor an IP Address) it will use that to test the DNS status.
