Title: Minimum internet bandwidth
Post by: N8CL on 2019-05-20, 21:20:39
While using a Verizon 4G-LTE hotspot at the Control site, I got comments that my CW turned into random garbage now and then.  A Wifi speed test showed the down speed about 8 Mbps, and the up 0.25 Mbps or worse.  Not good.  I was able to get a prepaid Comcast service that remained at 20 Mbps down and 1.0 up.  Not very impressive numbers, but it has worked perfectly on CW, FT-8, and SSB.  (K3, K3/0 mini).

Hi Chuck,

I used to use a WISP (Wireless ISP) who provided me with 4 Mbps down and 1Mbps up service. In reality it would never go higher than 0.9 Mbps up. All was OK when the speed test showed 0.9 Mbps up, but when the speed dropped to for example 0.7 Mbps up, I started to experience issues using my remote station. A couple of months ago, I switched to a more expensive provider whose speed is usually 70 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. All is okay now all the time, but it is costing me money.  ;D
