Title: RRC-1258 Unusable on 80m & 160m
Post by: w1ajt on 2019-09-10, 13:42:47
Hello All,

I have been using RR for a few years with two K3's.  For the last couple of years I have been plagued with a problem I can't seem to solve.  On either 80m or 160m the CW keying is totally disrupted and makes both bands unusable even at low power.  In local mode there is absolutely no problem at any power level.  I have measured the RF fields all around the RC-1258 and every other close place as keying was taking place and there is no difference local or remote.  Both antennas are heavily RF choked (actually tried 3 different 80m antennas with no help).   Observing remote operation locally there is no indication of a problem visually with the K3 or amplifier.  There is no problem from 10m to 40m.  I have to assume it is the RRC-1258 but why only on 80 & 160.

Does anyone have a hint as to what the problem is?

I suggest RFI in your ADSL-router. Check RF-Protection filter for DSL-Modems: www.remoterig.com/wp/?page_id=1732

I assume you have set the Keyer Settings in the Control-RRC since the higher bands are OK. See page 71 and 72 in the manual www.remoterig.com/downloads/RemoteRig_RRC1258-MkII_Users_manual.pdf

Thanks Palle for the response.  My ADSL router is at least 10m away from all radio equipment and I eliminated the LAN cable with a wireless hub but no difference.  I also have torroids on the router but will look at the filter you sent me the link about.   I have actually also tried hooking everything up as if going remote (i.e. on my local lan) and there is no problem.  Only actually when using the system remotely.  When friends are testing remotely I have no Internet problems with the shack computer going through the same wireless repeater.

The keyer has been set and works perfectly on the higher bands as I do a lot of remote contesting in the Winter including multi with others using their RR Controls to my RR Radio all with the same problem..

Thanks for the information.
