 8) Thanks, I had read your checklist several times.  I guess I am just dense.  Playing around I got it to work but with WIN4K3 not being the primary connection to the K3 there is 2-3 seconds of delay within my ham shack.  It would not be that noticeable on the control end when operating remotely but when I am in my shack using my K3 directly it is a significant delay.  For example when clicking the waterfall within WIN4K3 it takes about 2-3 seconds for the radio to switch (with the connection coming through the remote rig).  I am pretty sure that WSJT-X will not operate that well either with the delays.

Without the remote rig and with WIN4K3 using the serial port for the K3 directly it is instantaneous.

I greatly appreciate your help and time.  I thought it was worth a try to get the remote rig working, no joy though if it messes up my main station operation.  I will just have to go out to my ham shack when I want to operate.

In the winter like it is now I have to use my fireplace in the ham shack for heat - it is a pain to get it warm and keep it warm.

Merry Christmas and I wish you a terrific new year.

Ok, let me ask this first:

I operate from the ham shack 95% of the time.  I have amps, tuners, Rotors, SDR Skimmers and various equipment connected and am using 8 different serial ports to do so.  WIN4K3 is the software controlling everything and it needs exclusive use of the K3 to do so.

I am setting up the remoterig so that the other 5% of the time when I am too lazy to go to the ham shack, I can still operate the station.

I might not be understanding but if I disconnect the K3 from the computer and WIN4K3 and connect it to the RemoteRig it seems I will not be able to go to my ham shack and still operate all the other equipment via WIN4K3 as WIN4K3 will no longer be connected to the K3?

Sorry for being so dense but I want to be careful as the main ham shack is a very complex setup - thank you for your patience

Ok, I have tried this the best I understand and could not connect.... let me try to explain how my system is currently setup: (then you can explain what I have done wrong  :))

Remote end (Main radio in ham shack) - I have the K3 serial port connected to the computer and WIN4K3 is connected to the radio via this COM port.  Because of this i can't connect the RemoteRig to the K3 radio serial port directly.  I have the RRC-1258 COM2 connected to the Computer and the COM1 port is not connected to anything.  Is there a way to take the virtual com port and "map" it to the Serial COM port going to the RemoteRig COM2 port?

Within WIN4K3 I can configure virtual port pairs that other programs can access, they are called AUX/CAT ports.  I am trying to get the RemoteRig to access one of these AUX/CAT ports so that I can get CAT data without directly connecting to the K3.

I have searched and not seen this answered before (I could have missed it though)

I have retired and no longer travel so I no longer need my Remote Rig for travel.

I am trying to make my ham shack the remote station and my main house, my control station - both are co-located and share the LAN.  I have them talking to each other and I can listen and transmit remotely but I am not getting the CAT to transfer properly.

I want to be able to operate my ham shack while in the ham shack but when I am in the main house I would like to remote into my ham shack and operate my station.  Because of this I need to have the Remote Rig somehow connect through WIN4K3 to access CAT commands and avoid COM port conflicts.

Setup:

Remote: Elecraft K3 - connected to the computer using WIN4K3 as the control software - Remote Rig is also connected with the com port for the Remote Rig going to the Computer (the K3 has its COM port also going to the computer and WIN4K3 is using it)

Control:  Elecraft K3/0 remote

WIN4K3 is running well on the remote computer and I have AUX ports setup.  I would like to have the COM port for the Remote Rig accessing the AUX port from WIN4K3 and NOT connecting it directly to the K3.  That way I can share CAT commands with remote rig.

NOTE:  In the main house I have the K3/0 remote working where I can listen and transmit - BUT it is not sharing the frequency data because I can't get the COM ports to play nice.

if you have this set-up working I would love to know how you told the Remote Rig what COM port to listen too within WIN4K3.

Thanks for your help.

I will look into the links you provided.  Hopefully one day we can get DSL at our location.  Will not hold my breath though.

Again, thanks

Thank you for the prompt response....

So, I have looked at this answer a number of times and I am struggling with it.   So let me pose the question a little differently:

Has anyone in remote areas, successfully used a remoterig setup without DSL or Cable internet?  If so how did they do it?  I am likely wrong but it seems that one of the purposes of the remoterig is to operate stations that are remotely located?

I can get dial-up internet at my farm and I can get satellite internet from a number of providers (I selected Hughesnet but could have selected others).  I am open to any solution if there is one out there that would work.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this request/question again.

I have spent hours searching and reading... sorry if this is a duplicate but could not find an answer.

I am trying to remote to my farm in Missouri.  I can only get Hughesnet at the farm.

I have had remoterig working with my Elecraft K3 when using wired internet in other states but I simply can't seem to get hughesnet (satellite) to work.  I have read that IPv6 is a possibility or that a VPN is an option.

I am open to doing either.  If the VPN is an easier solution I would be glad to go that route.   I know very little about setting up and using the IPv6 vs IPv4.  From reading it seems that a VPN might be a better solution.

Any advice and/or does someone know of a thread that can help me?  Thanks in advance.  I have been trying to get hughesnet to work for 6 months... very frustrating.

WI4T (serious withdrawal from my ham radio)

I thought I would update people with what I found.

I went to the Radio site.  I found that one of the Ethernet cables was bad and I also had to reset the router from the router, not via online reset.  I am not sure which caused it but I am fairly certain it was the Ethernet cable.

Hi, I have a K3 remote radio and a K0 control head.  (Remote = where radio with antenna is at)

The setup was working flawless for 2 weeks.  About 1 week ago, when I turned on the control K0, upon connection, the audio was blaring and I really could not control the audio or radio well.  In addition the connection seemed to be pulsating at a random pattern.  For example, last night a station was +30 over S9:  the audio would drop to zero at different intervals such as 1 sec, 3 seconds, 5 seconds all randomly but making the ability to follow the conversation impossible.  In addition, this “pulsing” also affected my ability to tune; when I heard audio I could tune but when the audio dropped out it is as though I lost connection for a second and I could not tune despite turning the knob.

At the control K0 end the status shows the radio is connected.  At the remote radio end it status says the radio is disconnected even though it is not.  In addition at the control K0 end the router shows amber not green.

I am wondering if there is a known technical issue or perhaps somebody moved the cables on the radio end and I have an intermittent connection (hoping for technical as I don't want to make the trip back!)

I have reset the main routers at both homes.  I have also reset the RemoteRigs at both ends multiple times.
It is odd that it worked flawless for 2 weeks and now, every time, it has a pulsating connection.

Any advice would be helpful.

Null Modem Cable issue... now resolved

I double checked all are on 38,400.  Crazy I am so close but so far!  I can hear but can't control

Hi, my name is Greg and I am new to RemoteRig and the K3 Mini

I have the following situation in LAN and WAN:  my control radio will power on and off and turn the remote radio on and off.  I have audio from the remote radio.  However, all functions on the control(buttons) are frozen and do not work, in addition I cant change the frequency of the remote from the control.  Right now the control is showing 10.100.00 for the frequency in CW mode but the remote is on 20 meters SSB, I am listening to a QSO on the control radio just fine!

I have an Asus router N66U, I have forwarded ports 13000, 13001, and 13002 and I have put the IP of the remote remoterig into the DMZ.  I have disabled SIP passthrough although the problem exist with it enabled as well.

I have reentered the settings several times.  I am using the dynamic dnns service from remoterig and I have the correct IP address.

Any thoughts what to try?

Thanks,
