I'm not sure that's entirely true, but I will change to use a proper Serial cable instead. The thing is that this worked up until some days ago, on both Windows and Linux. When I connected the usB cable on Linux it showed upp properly as four serial devices, and I could successfully control the rig that way.

So it obviously does work. Just not now :-)

Still, a proper serial port is probably sensible.

Apologies, I should've mentioned this is not on Windows but a standard Linux Ubuntu. So I'm fairly certain nothing wonky is going on with the operating system. Still, are there any ways connecting the RRC USB port can trigger PTT!? I didn't think so.

Only thing I'm imagining is of there's some grounding issue causing a stray current in the RRC, but I thought everything was properly isolated.

Now that my previous woes are resolved, a new strangeness has appeared! When I connect the USB cable from the RRC Control, to my PC, PTT is triggered! PTT stays engaged until I disconnect the USB cable. There is no software communicating with the USB port, as far as I can tell. nor is the station set to VOX. Strange, no? This is with a TS-480.

All is now fine, I know neither what caused the problem, nor what resolved it. But a few days later, the problem is gone. I'm suspecting network issues, as now that it works, ping times are around 24ms and do not fluctuate more than +/- 2ms between successive pings.

Hi eveyrone,

today something unexpectedly happened without any (known to me) configuration changes anywhere. Happy for some help debugging this. I have a TS-480 setup with RRC-1258 MkIIs, which have been working great for well over a month. Today, when I started the control, the audio was choppy, in what I felt sounded like quite consistent periods: 500ms audio, 200ms drop, 500ms audio, 200ms drop, and so on.

Both RRCs use wired Ethernet connections, and the network between them seem reliable (no loss) with rtt of about 20-100 ms. The rtt vary quite a bit though between those extremes, so one hypothesis (given that this is UDP) is that the packets could in theory arrive out of order. But I've no basis for that, except that I see the ping time vary over time and can go from 20ms to 100ms between two consecutive pings.

It definitely seems like a problem on the Radio side: I experience the same chopped up audio if I use the RRC Nano, and it doesn't matter if I use mobile connection or Wifi then either.

It feels I'm spamming the forum now, but I got it to work unexpectedly. It turns out that (at least my version/setup) of the RRC Nano doesn't work well with DNS lookups. The problem was not NAT-related at all. If I, instead of using my DDNS name as the contact in RRC Nano, used the external IP number (77.22.40....), it works with the port forwarding I have in place.

Hi Mitch,

apologies for being unclear. What I meant is that if I'm connected to the local network (192.168.190.0/24) and using the remoterig local IP (192.168.190.35), then the setup works perfectly with Nano. However, if I disconnect my phone from the local network and instead run it against the cellular network (HSPA+ over 3G), *and* replace the IP I connect to with the DDNS domain name resolving to the external port of the router, then it does not work currently. So there's something in the port forwarding or so that doesn't quite work, and I've yet to figure out that. It doesn't seem to be a Nano issue per se though (even if some additional debug information would be nice).

Hi!

So, that was right: it's a firewall issue. If I'm on the same network, it works. If I'm remote, it does not. I opened up port 13000-13002 udp in the firewall, but no go. Tricky to figure out what's going on, but clearly network related.

Thanks for the response!
I'm going to try it again; I do have the serial cable in place and working (I'm able to control the TS-480 from the MkII Remote via CAT over the virtual COM port) so that should not be a problem.
Perhaps it's a firewall issue; I'll try it when I'm connected to the same network and see if that makes a difference.

I'm using the TS-480 with a pair of RRC-1258MkII and thought to give the RRC-Nano a try as well. It doesn't really do anything though, I enter the details as I believe them to be correct, but when I click Connect the button lights up and then goes dim again. No error message.

Now, it struck me on the way to work this morning that perhaps the answer is obvious; that the TS-480 console need to be turned on and active on the other side in order for the radio part to answer CAT commands etc. Is there something to that hypothesis, or should I be able to expect RRC-Nano to work and connect even without the console being turned on?

Aha! Då ignorerar jag Radio ON/OFF, och fortsätter labba. :-)

När du säger att det är "seriekontakterna på baksidan som används", menar du att detta ska ställas in någonstans bland inställningarna? Jag har tillverkat kontakter enligt instruktionerna, och har därför i radio-delen en 8-pin mini-DIN som går direkt till radion från RRC, utan att blanda in serieporten på RRC.

Kan det vara så att jag måste göra någon inställning där för att säga åt den att använda direktansluten CAT i stället för en CT-62 i serieporten?

Jag har dessvärre samma problem som sm5acu, men här är det inte strömmen som felar :-) Min setup består av en FT-897 och jag har satt båda RRC:erna på samma fysiska nätverk för att testa, med IP 192.168.1.70 för control och 192.168.1.67 för radio. Jag har satt program mode till 3 och när jag loggar in på control och trycker på "Connect" så sätter den upp kommunikationen och visar status Connected/transfering på både radio och control, men däremot visar control hela tiden "Radio: Off" respektive "Control Panel: Off". På radioänden så visas "Radio: On".

För mig verkar det som om det är något mellan RRC:erna som inte riktigt fungerar, och jag förstår inte varför control tycker att radion är Off, när radiosidan tycker att den är On. Eftersom de sitter på samma nät så är det ingen brandvägg eller annat mellan dem, och när de är i läge Connected/transfering så överförs ljudet till synes okey. Däremot så fungerar det inte att ansluta med HamRadioDeluxe; den får aldrig någon kontakt via serieporten. Jag har satt UART 2 till 9600/8/1/0 på både radio och control, och även satt FT-897 till läge CAT och 9600 bps.

Några förslag på vad som kan fallera mellan dem?
