General discussion forum / Radio RRC box no longer syncs
« on: 2021-02-24, 22:59:36 »
Greetings All,

I have several remotes set up around the country using RemoteRig. One that has worked fine for years has not been used for a few months due to travel restrictions from Covid. I attempted to access the Radio box today both via the network and also with a cable using Microbit 2.0. After failing to connect to it I noticed that when I unplug the power supply, even waiting 20 minutes and then apply power again, the red and yellow lights do not come on and the power light comes on immediately solid instead of blinking. I checked the voltage on the power supply to the box and also unplugged the power cable and connected the unit to a usb port. No difference. Any ideas or do I need a new box?

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

In case anyone else ever runs into this RARE problem...

Upon a close inspection inside the Radio interface it was discovered that one of the jumpers that is configured to match up to the TS-480S was corroded at the connection point. Upon resolving that issue everything returned to normal.

I have owned and operated two remotes basically since RemoteRig hit the market. I use the TS-480s at both remote sites and have had to resolve many issues through the years but I am stuck on this one.

The ISP at one radio location recently changed out their equipment to a cable modem/router.  The connection to the radio box from the remote control box is still excellent however after the iSP change, if I turn the gain on the control side higher than approximately 11:00 o’clock the receive audio motorboats. Also if the cw paddle is keyed to dots or dashes, the remote radio Generates a continuous carrier for as long as the paddle is keyed. If you listen very closely to the transmitted signal you can detect very faint dots or dashes in the background through the constant carrier. The same is true if connecting from control to radio within network.

Has anyone else ran across this? I contacted Mitch about this a couple of months ago and this was a new one to him as well.

Greetings All,

Jack WA7HJV here...

I am helping a friend with his new remote rig set up. It works great inside his home network and it works great outside of his home network but only if we use his external IP as the SIP contact in the Control Box. He does not have a static IP and his external IP tends to change whenever there's a power glitch so we are trying to use the RemoteRig.com DDNS but have an issue that I did not find resolution to on the forum.

I have two other remoterig stations set up and I use the DDNS on them with no problem but my friends setup does not want to pick up an IP.  I have verified that the passwords are correct and that SIP contact in the control box matches the Own Host Name in the Radio box. When I use the DDNS status app to check it with his Own Host Name, it shows No IP.

Everything works fine if I enter his network external IP into SIP contact in the control box but as I mentioned his IP changes often so this is not a good fix.

I ran this by Mitch a couple of weeks ago. please see his reply below. I have not had any success trying these options, most likely because I did not understand what he was suggesting I should try...

Hi Jack,

There is a bug in the RRC firmware that I have reported, but has not been fixed yet (it is hard to find). The issue is that when you use a fixed internal IP address for the radio RRC, then often it can not resolve the DNS server (not to be confused with Dynamic DNS, that is completely different).

That is why I always recommend to use DHCP even for the radio RRC and bind the address in the router instead. This problem never occurs in that case.

If you are unwilling to go the DHCP route, there is another work-around that I found: go into the RRC's IP settings and put the following into the DNS field: 8.8.8.8

I would like to try his suggestion to "bind the address in the router" but that is beyond my current skill level to figure out.
My friend that is having the problem is using a Linksys WRT54GS  version 6.

If anyone could help with this is would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Greetings,

I am fairly new to RR ops, have only been on for about 6 weeks so this may have been covered before but I haven't found it on the forum.
I never noticed before but the SIP out and Audio out changes ports on each connection on the Radio end. Is this normal? Below are a couple screen shots of my Radio RRC status. The photo is with Status: Disconnected and the last two are with Status: Connected.

Thank you in advance for any info.

Greetings,

I have been accessing my Radio RRC with my Control RRC from various Motels and assorted Routers. Some of the upload speeds at the Motels become too slow under heavy use to perform satisfactory. So yesterday I purchased a Verizon Hotspot (Jetpack 890L) which has a good solid 5 MB down and 4 MB up. It works great for everything but RemoteRig. I have used my Sprint Cell Phone as a hotspot before with no issues but this standalone 890L hotspot appears to block some of the required ports.  I called Verizon and talked to their Level 2 techs about this but they are pretty much clueless when it comes to anything to do with ports.
Has anyone had any experience with this hotspot?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank You,

Jack WA7HJV
