Hello.  I have a few RemoteRig setups and they work great.  However, I have a new setup that I planned to use with a Kenwood TM-V71A.  I have the radio base set up at my home and planned to be able to take the control head mobile, especially to our club repeater sites to give us real life feedback when we make adjustments to the repeaters.

Here is the scenario:  The base unit is connected to my home internet.  The control unit is connected via wifi to my iPhone hotspot.  The units will connect to each other.  The SIP lights come on on each end and the web status page shows that all is well and data is transferring properly.  Yet, the radio control head won't power on and no audio flows.  Also, once you connect, the control head is then unresponsive and you cannot disconnect without removing the power source from the RRC.  As an experiment, I swapped out the radio with a Kenwood TS-480sat.  Once I did this, everything worked normally.  I swapped back to the V71A and it does not work.  If I take the V71A control head to the local library and use their internet connection, the radio connects and works fine.  I have swapped out RRCs, tried various groups of ports, and tried almost everything imaginable and yet no change.

So to summarize:  The problem only occurs when I am trying to remote a Kenwood TM-V71A over my iPhone hotspot.  If the radio changes to something else, the problem goes away.  If the iPhone changes to a regular internet connection, the problem goes away.  It is when the TM-V71A and the iPhone are being used together there is a problem.  The fact that the iPhone will work just fine remoting the same RRC but with a Kenwood 480 attached suggests to me that the iPhone is capable of doing the job.  The baud rate for both the V71A and the 480 are both 57600.  The RRC configurations for both these radios are essentially identical.  In theory there should be NO DIFFERENCE, yet somehow, there is.

Here are my suspicions:  Is there something different in the data stream between the RRCs for the V71A vs the TS-480?  Is there a higher data requirement somehow for the V71A?  Is there an initial handshake between them that somehow is more difficult to happen on the V71A?

If anyone is remoting a TM-V71A using an iPhone hotspot at the control end, let me know if it works for you.

Thanks and 73

Feature Requests / Voltage Reading on Web Status Page
« on: 2018-01-15, 18:15:11 »
Hello,

I think a very useful feature would be the supply voltage to the RRC to be displayed on the web Status page.  Many RRCs get deployed to remote locations (the whole point of remoterig) and some of these are on either solar or battery power.  Being able to log in remotely to the status page and see what the supply voltage is would be very useful.... if it is possible to do.

Thanks and 73

Hello.  This is my third pair of RRC's and I have a new problem I haven't seen before.  I bought this set used, so I'm not sure if something was set by the previous owner that could have done this.  I set my SIP and audio ports in the RRC's and did the port forwarding in my router.  All was good until I tried to connect and the units connect, SIP light goes yellow, but data does not flow back and forth.  Looking at the Status tab on the web config page shows that the SIP In, Audio In, and Command In ports are all what I set them to, but the SIP Out, Audio Out, and Command Out have all automatically changed themselves to what appear to be random port numbers.  I have no idea why it would do this.  The unit came with the current 2.91 firmware in it. I have re-loaded the firmware and still the same result.  Any ideas would be great.  Thanks.

Hello,

I am trying to get my RRCs up and running remotely.  I am using a Kenwood TS-480 and have had it working great on my LAN.  Now that I have moved the units apart, I am having trouble.  I am fairly sure that the trouble is at the radio end.  I have a wireless provider that provides me with a Dynamic IP.  They will not let me forward port 80 (they have it blocked for security reasons).  As an alternative, I had them open up port xxxx (they suggested this number as an alternate) as TCP.  I intended to use this port as a replacement for port 80.  I changed the web server port in the Microbit setup manager in the radio RRC.  When I look at my DDNS status I can see my external IP address, but I can not connect to the RRC with the browser.  The only way that I can connect to the RRC with a browser is to change the Web Server Port back to 80 with Microbit setup manager and then log on through my LAN.  Are there bad ports to choose in a router for the Web Server Port?  Do I need to do anything other that change the one box in Microbit (when I change it there it also changes it on the browser advanced settings screen)?

Here are a few facts about my setup:

My control RRC will not connect to my Radio RRC

I am assuming that I leave alone the Web Server Port at the control end (still set to Port 80)

In the Microbit Setup Manager there is a check box under the Settings tab for DHCP.  I have this unchecked.  I am assuming that this is from the perspective of my LAN.  If I check this box my RRC local IP address changes and my Port Forwarding gets messed up.  In the Setup screen it shows the IP as my Local IP for the radio RRC, then it shows my gateway and dns server ips as they are.

When I log on to the RRC with my browser (after changing Web Server Port temporarily back to 80) it shows that the DNS is working.

I am using WiFi to connect my radio RRC to my wireless internet gateway.

When I try to connect by turning the power on at the control site I get 3 tones (sound like no service tone on a cell phone)

When I do a port forward test it shows port xxxx (replacement for Port 80) is open.

When I try to connect from the control site, I get a SIP error.

Neither of the routers at either site have options for turning off SIP ALG.

When I view the status on my browser at the control site it shows the DNS connection is OK and it shows the Hostname and IP address of the radio site.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
