General discussion forum / HRD Serial Port not Working
« on: 2010-10-02, 23:03:05 »
Hello All:

I know I am doing something wrong, but I do not know what it is..

I ordered and just installed double shielded serial cables on both RRC boxes and still nothing.

I am using COM 1 on each end of the RRC System.

I have it set for 34,800 with N,8,1 in both boxes and the radio.

I am using "straight through" cables on both boxes.

So from the RS232 port of the radio, I connect a cable to COM 1 of the "radio RRC" box.

On the "control head" box I connect a cable from COM 1 of that box to a USB to serial adapter into the computer.

The connections is seen on the computer under the "Device Manager."

I have tried all mixes of CTS, DTR and RTS.

The program does NOT see the radio..

Why?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello All:

What is the setup to use HRD with a TS-480 via the RRC serial port 1?

I connected a DB9 cable from the from connector of the TS-480 body and Comm 1 of the hilltop RRC unit.

What settings should I use?

Thanks,

Tim

General discussion forum / TS-480 Audio Fixed
« on: 2010-08-22, 00:39:37 »
Hello All:

Well I got to the bottom of my audio issue today.

In July, when we installed the Remote Rig, I had made the audio modification on the RRC "head unit."

I got a "world class" Heil PR40 with the boom and everything. I added a PreSonus TubePre, EQ3B and a Comp 16 to my mic input. I was going to be 10-8 on all bands.

We installed OCF wire antenna @ 3800' on the top of Mt. Diablo in Northern California. I have a 5.8G connection directly between my house and the hill. Nothing was going to keep me from being a BMOC.

Well, now what happened...

I had a great crew to assist with the install and everything "looked" good, but the audio was horrible.

Anytime I went over 10 watts of power it would go to hell..

I have a 100 amp N+1 power supply, so I knew I had enough power for a 100 watt radio.

It turns out the TS-480 was connected to the "battery backup" terminals of the PS and on key-up voltage would drop to about 9VDC and a "hum" could be heard.

Well it is now fixed and working well..

So in the end, pilot error again.

Thanks,

Tim

General discussion forum / PC-Client Questions
« on: 2010-07-22, 20:25:05 »
Hello All:

I got my PC-Client the other day.

I got it to connect to my RRC on the radio side.

The PTT does not seem to work..

Do I need HRD or another PC client to use RRC-Micro?

Someone said I do NOT need any RS232 connection from the "radio RRC" to the radio. Is this correct?

Can I leave the control head on and connected to the radio RRC, while I use the RRC-Micro?

Can I control the radio from the radio head, while the RRC-Micro is connected? And will the RRC-Micro user be able to work the radio, when I change frequencies with the radio head?

Thanks,

Tim

General discussion forum / Audio Problem at 52.525 FM
« on: 2010-07-14, 03:09:11 »
Hello All:

I had a low "growl" when I was on 52.525Mhz in FM mode with a TS-480.

We did the "audio mode" and it is still there.

We soldered to the left part of the "cap" pad and the lower part of the resistor pad.

Tough to tell the proper place for the resistor pad??

Any ideas.

I also turned on the "Codec inp preamp" as suggested...

Thanks,

Tim

General discussion forum / Icom PCR-2500
« on: 2010-06-28, 05:08:26 »
Hello All:

I have a PCR-2500 which interfaces to my computer with a USB cable. On the radio end it is a USB type B connection. On the computer end it is a USB type A connection.

The question is, can I hook-up the USB type B connector to the Comm 1 port of the "mountain side (remote)" of the Remote Rig and the USB type A connectors to the Comm 1 of the "at the house side (local)" Remote Rig and use the speaker out audio into and out of the appropriate boxes?

Will the audio pass though the Remote Rigs and will I be able to control the PCR-2500 via the computer locally with the "black box (receiver) on the mountain?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim

General discussion forum / TS-480 and Link-Comm DSP404
« on: 2010-06-26, 17:18:58 »
Hello All:

The TS-480 has been installed on a shelf, along with the Remote Rig and is ready to be installed on the mountain. Our plan is for install on July 3, 2010.

I have also mounted a DSP squelch from Naval Electronics that connects from the front 6 pin din port and the radio 232 port to a port on the RLC-DSP404 controller. This equipment will allow TT access to the HF remote from a repeater system. The "Naval" unit adjusts, to get rid of the white noise and pass audio into the repeater system.

All is working well on the bench.

The Remote Rig seems to be working perfect.

I will provide updates as I have them.

Hello All:

I just got a Navigator and connected it to my IC-756 Pro at my home station. Within a few minutes I had made my first PSK 31 contact to a JA.

This was very cool.

I have a RRC-1258MkII, which I will use to remote a TS-480SAT as the weather gets better.

The Navigator uses a 25 pin DB25P connector and they build cables that connect to the various radios. In looking at the cable layout for a TS-480 I see it uses ten of the pins, but two of them are SHIELD.

So the questions are:

If a nine pin cable was created on the "radio" end to be connected to the radio body at the placed needed in the radio for the Navigator to interface with, can this connection be connected to comm 1 or comm 2 on the RRC at the RADIO end?

And then on the control head end, a nine pin connector is connected to the same comm port and then to the 25 pin connector of the Navigator?

Are the "comm" ports on the RRC able to pass whatever is connected to them, to each other?

With a FAST internet connection, about 1ms delay between my remote site and the operating position, is it fast enough for this to work using the RRC's?

I have attached a file showing the cables needed between the Navigator and the TS-480SAT.

Thanks,

Tim

General discussion forum / HRD & Audio
« on: 2010-03-06, 04:14:35 »
Hello All:

I know it's me, but I just got the RRC and a new TS-480SAT. I have NOT used the RRC's yet, but I am trying to get my PC to talk to HRD. The configuration is a normal install..

Question?? does HRD allow the audio to be heard in the PC speakers directly from the HRD program? Or do I need to hookup a speaker to the TS480SAT?

I am NOT currently using the RRC interface.

Thanks,

Tim

General discussion forum / TS-480 ver IC-706 Or??
« on: 2010-02-25, 19:08:38 »
Hello All:

I have a RRC-1258MkII being shipped.

I have to purchase a new radio for the mountain that will be used with the RRC.

I want to be able to use the control head of the radio, I may also want to use HRD.

I may want to use "digital" modes.

I also want to be able to connect the "hill top" radio to a RLC-3 Link-Comm controller and use the HF remote with our Repeater System.

So, the question is WHAT RADIO" would you guys suggest and why?

Thanks,

Tim
