I have set up the USB virtual Com2 port, im finding it has a delay of few seconds after making a vfo/mode change.
Using the PC Serial Com1 port I get no delay when plugged into the local end Com2 on RPC1258.
My set up:
WinXP SP3
RPC1258 f/w ver 2.35, Mar 17 2011 11:06:54
Virtual USB Serial to RPC1258. Com5
Dell Latitude laptop D610 1.4Ghz 1Gig Ram
Cat Program Yaesu PCC for FT-450 (yaesu own cat program)
3G wireless link to remote site, ADSL2 at local end.
Befor I junk my old Dell Laptop is there known problems with the virtual Com2 USB port?

Im looking at using the CW keyer lines for general use switch control, to control 2 relays at my remote end, can the keyer out support switching a 12 volt relay @ 100mA coil current?
Also comferm there are 3 bidirectional keyer lines, for general use if not using CW keying function?

My Micophone for a FT-450 has a active circuit and need 5 volt supply @100mA (Yaesu MH67) to operate, I also have a DTMF Mic it requires 5 volts also.
Looking at the strapping notes, is there a 8 volt pin, if so, I will wire up a 7805LS voltage reg to provied 5 volts out to power the Mic will make a small daughter board with the voltage reg with leads to connect to the MIC/AUX strapping block.
As a temp solution im using a old 600 ohm dynamic hand Mic , it works ok.

Im finding in the 8khz 4bit, ADPCM Codec mode,(audio quailty 12) im getting volume change hits, on the remote to base end, the SIP and  connect status is ok, Im guessing Volume changes aprox 10-13dB in rapid succession, seems to happen 20% of the time, ping time to hosts under 200mS.

General discussion forum / Low bit rate CODEC option ?
« on: 2010-08-25, 09:25:20 »
I have a problem with my 3G wireless ISP (Telstra Bigpond) having a economy plan I get 64kbit shaped datarate, after I exceed my data  1GByte allowence. :(
I have 10 acres on my weekender  bush block, have some long wire antennas, very low noise, 300watt solar power setup, a pair of the RemoteRig interfaces with my Icom IC718 be ideal :)
Please Please can you introduce low bit rate codecs (G729 GSM G726) to allow to operate on a 64kbit data rate.
If you offer a low bit rate codec, you will sell heaps in Australia, and outside of USA and Europe where  dont have unshaped broadband.
