When using the RRC black boxes, I use a program written by Walter-HB9ZS to control my Alpha87 via com port 2. It's a great program available at:

http://www.qslnet.de/member/hb9zs/

I recently added RRC PC Remote Client to my setup, since it reduces my PC 'footprint' when operating. The only issue here is that the RRC PC Remote Client uses com ports 20, 21, & 22. My interface program will not 'see' com ports above 16. I contacted HB9ZS and he stated he uses the Microsoft communication module 'Mscomm32ports.ocx' which only supports ports 1-16.

Is there any chance to make the port values user defined or lower them to 16 and below?

I would like some insight on the various 'light' indicators and green meter which appear in the client window.

I have in the upper left corner a green and red light, then in the lower left corner a lone red space orange green green black lights.

My receive audio has a few hick-ups now and then... and crashes if I try to use the computer for much else. I have decent internet connection.

A crib sheet would be handy.

General discussion forum / Audio Feedback??
« on: 2010-11-17, 19:26:21 »
I have been getting complaints about 'feedback' on my remote signal. Many listeners state that is sounds PA feedback, not RF. I have tried many different settings jitter delay, buffer size etc. to no avail.

I have a MicroHam interface back in the shack... probably the root cause. However, I thought I would query the group for suggestions I have been using v2.20, but recently moved to v2.27.

Thanks in advance

General discussion forum / Insanity

Insanity can sometimes be defined as doing the same things over and over expecting different results. Well I installed the latest 2.27 update since I have a PC Client on order, but I can not get HRD to connect. This was the same as 2.26 & 2.25. My HRD is only happy with 2.20...

Early in my intial setup my radio side box quit rebooting after any changes were made to the setting or software level. The only way I can reboot is to power cycle the device. I wonder if the new install is fully configured properly without the normal reboot cycle happening, maybe some corruption occurs when I update.

I am miles away from my remote radio and can not touch it for 5 more months.

Any thoughts?

General discussion forum / FW 2.20 vs 2.26 with V5
« on: 2010-11-02, 02:28:47 »
I had an issue commuicating with my Alpha on com1, so I downloaded the latest 2.26 installed it
no joy... noticed it required a hardware update to V6.

So, I then downloaded 2.25, still no joy (wasn't sure if a hardware update was required, I believe I have V5).

Finally, I moved back to 2.20, which is were I started the process. Something happened along the way and the Alpha was happy with all versions, but HRD would not start until I was back to 2.20.

Hope this might help others.

General discussion forum / Port 80 Security
« on: 2010-09-28, 05:06:13 »
While setting up my remote power switch on port 8080, I wondered about how secure my Remote Rig was on port 80. Unlike my IP power switch which requires an ID and password, Remote Rig easily opens without one from outside my LAN.

I am not an expert here, just feeling my way through this process. Any thoughts from those with more experience.

General discussion forum / Power Cycle Reboot Required

Strange new bug...

I now have to reset the power on my radio side RRC after making and setup changes i.e. serial settings etc.

Things worked great yesterday, today I could not connect. After much experimentation, I pinged both boxes and the router. The control side box and router responded, but not the radio side. I reset the power (pulled 12v connector) and pinged it Bingo!

I have a sense this is router related, but have changed anything on that side.

Any thoughts

I am trying to interface the subject amplifier over radio com1...
No joy yet, my settings are as follows:

Mode 5
4800 baud
8 data bits
1 stop bit
No parity
No rts/cts (??)
Com1 terminator 0d hex

I am using a serial level USB convertor out of the remote com1.
Any thoughts?
