General discussion forum / RCC System has stopped responding
« on: 2011-03-16, 23:22:15 »
On a recent business trip I took the Control RCC and the TS480  Control Panel with me.  I operated as often as I could in view of my busy schedule.  Upon returning home I upgraded the FirmWare to FW2.34.  About two weeks after that I wanted to demonstrate the RCC system to my son who was spending the weekend home from university.  I could not get the system to respond.  I thought that, perhaps, the FW upgrade had been corrupted so I re-installed FW 2.33.  The system still did not work.  I have tried everything in my limited knowledge, including checking the cables.  In desperation I am attaching tables containing the status of the Radio RCC as well as the Control RCC, all connected with the TS480 within my LAN.  I did not change any parameters after my business trip.  Is there a way to connect the Radio and Control RCC's together to see if they will provide connectivity?  I need help.  I have another business trip coming up.

Since I travel a lot and stay in hotels, living out of a suitcase, I wish to reduce as much as possible the amount of radio gear which I must take with me in order to operate on the HF bands using my TS480.  I have good connection using the TS480 and its control panel with the Remoterig, but I can not seem to establish connection using a PC instead of the control panel.  Here is my setup:  Laptop connected to the Control-RRC via a USB-to-DB9 cable with its software installed on the laptop.  That installation seems to be OK.  The DB9 end of the cable connects to COM2 on the Control-RCC.  I am using the Kenwood TS480 free software (ARCP-480) installed on the laptop.  I have used it before and like it.  The error message I get on the laptop is that the COM port is in use or the Baud rate is wrong.  The COM port, however, has been configured for 57600bps; likewise, the ARCP-480 software.  I consistently get the same error message.  I need help to resolve this problem.  Help?

Lynksys Router IP is 192.168.1.1. RCC 1258 Serial 3164 has been assigned IP address 192.168.1.228 and RCC 1258 Serial 3211 has been assigned IP address 192.168.1.227.  Both units have Netmask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1, and DNS 192. 168.0.1 (default).  I have not selected DHCP.  I have updated both units to FW 2.33.  I have confirmed that all cables work correctly.  When attempting to establish initial connection within my LAN, the TS480 panel does not power up and after a few seconds I receive from the panel a warning tone like telephone companies use for "incompleted calls" -- tone low - high - low, low - high -low, low - high- low.  What am I doing wrong?  Since I am basically in kindergarden when it comes to IP technology this is very frustrating.
