General discussion forum / SSB stopped working
« on: 2021-11-29, 14:51:52 »
Hi,

We had a mysterious problem at OH0Z. SSB stopped working without any warnings. Tomi (OH6EI) visited the station now during the cqww and we had time to check the problem as we thought it would have been just a loose connector or a faulty cable. But it was not. Luckily we had an older RRC there (that we replaced for other reasons) and SSB started work with it just fine. So there is something wrong inside the RRC as rebooting did not help and the FW is the latest. Tomi will bring it back for further investigation but I do not know what to do with it next - any ideas?

Hi,

We have encountered a new issue at OH0Z. We need to switch the power of the Radio-RRC off/on to get connected otherwise there is a SIP error as follows:

Name   Value
P5.4   ON
Radio   ON
Connection status   Disconnected
SIP status   Unknown(1)
Last SIP error   SIP Error
RTP/UDP audio status   Disconnected
UDP cmd status   Disconnected
SIP command timeout   4
Rx Jitter buffer size   16
Rx Jitter delay   13
Dual Rx   0
SIP Out port   13000
SIP In port   13000
Audio Out port   13001
Audio In port   11000
Command Out port   13002
Command In port   12000
External SIP In port   13000
External Audio In port   11000
External Cmd In port   12000
Other party
Other party(mac)
Input 0   High
Input 1   High
Input 2   High
Output 0   Low
Output 1   Low
Output 2   Low
DNS status   OK, .....
Active profile   OH0Z
PTT status   OFF
Common network settings   No
System messages   No

What could be the root cause for this one? We have not changed any settings in at least 2 years.

And as said power reboot helps but as we do it remotely the whole station is rebooted (PC, 4G modem, etc.) so and we are very reluctant to do that every time to run the station.

General discussion forum / RRC will not turn off K3 anymore
« on: 2020-05-12, 18:15:46 »
Hi,

Our RRC has worked fine for many years. Last week I was not able to turn the radio on anymore. It turned out that the RRC at remote radio site keeps K3 turned ON all the time. Even pressing the power button on K3's front panel (at the radio on the remote site) didn't turn the radio off. We had to plug off the "ACC(DE15M connector) <-> RJ45" cable at the RRC end to be able to shut down the radio. We tested this even with RRC powered off and the symptom was the same so it seems like the RJ45 connectors Pin #5 is grounded all the time. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi All,

I changed my ADSL router at home to a new one and I believe my problem with CONTROL RRC is related to that. Every time I turn my radio (K3/0) on there is a SIP error and the radio will not be connected. If I reboot the RRC at home and turn the radio on again everything works just fine. But that is not very convenient so I am looking for a solution to fix this. The only observation for the possible cause of the behavior so far is the SIP out port. After rebooting the RRC the port number is 5060 and after closing the radio it stays at 5060 for a while but then changes to a random number between 5070-5120. If I turn the radio on when the SIP out port is anything but 5060 it will not work. Could it have something to do with this?

I have my RRC IP set as DMZ at the router. RRC FW is 2.86.

All ideas are very much appreciated as I need to keep my current ADSL router. The old model became unstable and it is no longer supported by my ISP.

General discussion forum / DNS Error
« on: 2015-12-02, 06:10:34 »
Hi All,

I have got a DNS error now a couple of times during the last month.

RRC Control Status page shows: DNS status   Error, failed to resolve [hostname].ddns.remoterig.com!

The IP had not changed at remote site but I resubmitted it with http://ddns.remoterig.com/status/ - no help.
Rebooted the Control RRC - no help
Power booted the Control RRC - no help

Webswitch was able to resolve the same DNS name and I can connect to that unit without any problems from my home.

Changed the RRC Control's SIP contact to a numeric IP address instead of the DNS and it started to work.

So something going on with the Radio RRC unit's capability to resolve DNS - any ideas?

Was happy to work CQWW SOSB 160 remotely without any problems though :-)

Hi,

My remote setup works just fine but the web interface of Radio RRC is quite often unresponsive. I can not even access the web interface on the local LAN there (I have ea remote PC with TeamViewer). The RRC does respond to ping and the radio works etc. but I am not able to access the web page  unless I power reboot the unit at the remote site. Just hate to do it as it reboots everything there: the router, PC, antenna controllers etc.

The RRC SW version  is 2.81

I have also recorded the following error messages if it has something to do with this symptom:

14.7.2015
Data Abort at 0x0004a9dc, called by 0x0004a044

1.7.2015
Data Abort at 0x0004a760, called by 0x0004a72c

17.6.2015
Data Abort at 0x0004aa04, called by 0x0004a044

30.5.2015
Data Abort at 0x0004aa04, called by 0x0004a044

Any ideas?

General discussion forum / K3/0 display freezes
« on: 2014-09-10, 09:32:28 »
Hi All,

Just wanted to share this one. I have been using RRC with a K3/0 for a year now and it works just fine most of the time. There is this irritating freeze of the display&LEDs from time to time though. But I seem to have found a workaround for the problem now. By pressing PTT the display refreshes and awakes. As simple as that. I just happen to work CW 99% of the time so pressing PTT is not something you do by nature. Luckily I worked some SSB and found the cure there. Maybe there is way to incorporate this "refresh" feature somehow in the firmware? I have installed a foot pedal for now...

General discussion forum / Latency mystery
« on: 2013-11-02, 22:21:01 »
Hi,

I have posted a few questions here related to my issues with CW keying. I have tried to find out a workaround and have succeeded to some extent. Anyway the root problem is still to be resolved and it is a mystery for me. I have problems with the latency of my internet connection and I have spent tens of hours analyzing the problem as it seems to be RFI related.

I am using a 3G connection (3G router BandLuxe R300) and the 3G base station (UMTS 900 MHz) is quite near (<4 km) at the remote site. I have an outdoor yagi pointed there and the normal latency is between 60-90 ms, uplink about 1 Mbps and downlink 2 Mbps on average.

And here is the mystery. If I am running barefoot everything is fine but when using amplifier problems start (at about 600W and upwards). But the mystery does not start immediately - it takes from 4-10 minutes and after that the latency starts to go up and down heavily. Here is a screenshot of a ping trace between my home PC and the remote 3G router:

http://www.kolumbus.fi/kalehtim/ping.png

If I am not transmitting the delay stays under 100 ms for hours...

Unfortunately the RTT exceeds the critical 250 ms that is currently the maximum delay for CW keying. So my CW has some annoying errors there.

The thing that I can not understand is that the higher delay seems to last excatly 3,5 minutes every time - sounds like a SW or protocol timeout? It happens when transmitting on 160 meters or 10 meters. The delay propagates to all of the nodes between my home and the remote site. As you can see in the graph the delay is behaving the same way at the closets router to my home (vantik1.fi.elisa.net) and the remote 3G modem. My ISP has checked the lines and could not find any problems there. I tested the setup also by using a 3G modem at my home to bypass my ADSL access network and I could see the same problem with that setup as well.

I have put the remote 3G router in a metal box (grounded) with ferrites on power cable, current choke on the coaxial cable of the yagi and shielded CAT6 ethernet cable (1m long). So quite good RFI protection there. I bought also a 900MHz band pass filter for the modem  (yet to be installed)...

The Radio RRC is grounded, Ethernet is set to Auto-prefer 10 Mbps.

I am totally lost here. Any ideas are more than welcome.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Winkey
« on: 2013-10-14, 18:17:12 »
Hi,

I tried to configure the Control-RRC to use USB for Winkey to solve my other CW keying issues. Unfortunately I did not see the COMFSK-driver in Windows Device Manager so I reinstalled the Microbit setup manager. After that some new COM-ports appeared: RRC1258 COM0 (COM13), RRC1258 COM1 (COM14), RRC1258 COMExtra (COM15). I already had Microbit RRC VIrtual Comport (COM12) and Microbit RRCMicro (COM4)  there. But still no USB-COMFSK driver listed.

I thought that maybe the COMExtra is a "new" USB-COMFSK but did not get it to work either.

I also set COM1 Mode to "Winkeyer" and set "Use USB Com Port as COM1"=YES to test both "RRC1258 COM0 (COM6)" and RRC1258 COM1 (COM7) but Winkeyer was not found.

I have a K3 twin setup if that matters. Any ideas?

General discussion forum / CW Key delay
« on: 2013-10-14, 16:32:26 »
Hi,

I have been happily using remoterig for two years now - mostly for DXing. Now I would like to run some contests too but the CW keying is an issue as I am using 3G network. Just ran 400+ QSOs in SAC phone remotely without any problems. CW keying seems to be more sensitive to jitter.

So this is actually a feature request. I would like to see a key delay of 500 ms in the future releases. As I am using 3G connection the jitter jumps occasionally over 250 ms causing irregular CW keying. If the delay could be set to 500ms it would help a lot. Any chance?

General discussion forum / CW Keying issue
« on: 2011-07-25, 23:17:25 »
Hi All,

Even though I have been happily working quite a lot of QSOs on CW with my remote setup there is a keying problem I would like to fix. My keying seems to be right when listening the CW side tone but when monitoring my transmission on the band with CW Skimmer I can see too much of missing dots or dashes and sometimes too long a dash. This happens with the internal keyer and when keying with computer. If I send 3xCQ and 3xOH2XX I can see almost every time at least one missing dot or dash to be more precise.

I have ADSL line on both ends. The remote side's line is not as stable as my home connection so the ping value varies between 32...70 ms. When testing the line there are sometimes packet loses but not too much. I have tried with different settings but have not found any cure for the problem. Any ideas?

General discussion forum / CW Side tone
« on: 2011-07-07, 17:25:20 »
Hi,

Two smaller issues with CW side tone. The first one is the volume level. I am using noise cancelling headphones and therefore been using very low level side tone for years. With RRC even the lowest level (-50dB) is just too loud for me. It wears your ears especially in contests... Any change to scale that parameter even more downwards?

The second one might be a bit more tricky. As there is no real feedback from the transmitter for the side tone being generated RFI problems may be unnoticed. I seem to have a RFI issue on 160m and luckily I was monitoring myself with CW Skimmer at home to notice the problem. The TX was just sending a long dash even though listening the CW side tone everything sounded to be ok.

Hi,

I just installed two Dallas 18B20 but the temperature reading says -0.0625 for both units? Using FW 1.21 here. Any ideas?
