After significant effort I got the system to work somewhat.

The Good:

1) PC micro connects to RRC radio.
2) HRD launches and I can control the radio ie switch bands, change settings etc
3) I was able to transmit with the microkeyer and through splash top I was totally able to control the amp SPE 1K and change antennas. Works great. Looks like on the transmit side signal is going through with no issue.

The Bad

1) receive audio is completely a mess. It is choppy and not intelligible.
2) the control head of the TS480 works perfectly with the same routers. So this confuses me. Audio is perfect with control head.

So at this point I am perplexed how we could have enough throughput for the RRC Control and TS480 head but insufficient throughput or significant latency with the PC micro.
I was thinking this might be an audio set up issue for this PC micro and RRC radio.

Any thoughts would be welcome. Stuck again.

General discussion / Laptop doesn't see PC Micro 1274A
« on: 2013-07-04, 05:15:29 »
My laptop first recognized the PC micro 1274A device and now it doesn't ever see it. I am not sure what to do with this. I was previously able to connect both the PC micro to RRC Radio and get HRD to launch now all of a sudden it is not recognized. I am not sure what is going on.

I got all my cables replaced for the two internet lines I have at my home.  One is dedicated to Remoterig. Previously I was able to connect to the RRC Radio through PC micro and launch HRD but there was intermittent audio only.  Once the cable guy left, I plugged in the PC micro and now the Laptop doesn't identify the PC micro device.  I have started and restarted and it just won't recognize the device.  The virtual ports which disappeared previously are now back.  Any thoughts on how I can get the laptop to see the PC Micro 1274A.

Please advise.

Thanks,

I have made progress but still cannot get the PC micro to work completely.

I have set it up with the TS480 through COM Port 2 RRC Radio and it now connects fine and HRD launches. My COM0 is set at 57600 baud and I have thought to lower that to 4800 baud because I cannot get a solid green connection either through a direct connection to a router or wireless into my house's separate family router.  I have two separate modems and routers with one dedicated to the shack and remoterig.

HRD worksfor about five minutes before HRD crashes and then my COM ports on the laptop just disappeared. Not sure what to do next.  I think i am getting closer.  Any thoughts on what happened to my COM ports and what settings would work to get this running would be awesome.

Thanks,

Keith

Mitch,

It could very well be an issue with cabling though these cables were recommended by Elecraft for my setup.

I did have this working ok with my FT450 before but the cabling was simpler, but I still had issues with Low audio ouput and ALC to the PA of that rig. It could only drive like 5W.

I sent you an email with the setup jpeg from Elecraft.

Thanks,

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Using HRD with K3 - Setup problem
« on: 2012-06-11, 08:25:15 »
I have the networking issues figured out and can connect everytime.  I hear the audio fine and I can key the transmitter with no issue.

My issue:  I am having problems now launching the HRD program with the K3.  I have read through the various posts and I am connected appropriately utilzing the cables purchased from Elecraft.  The COM2 port shows up in Device Manager.  I am using serial to serial connectors on the radio RRC side.  I am using a USB connector to the radio. This maybe the area where the problem exists.  I am stumped once again.

In the near future I am transitioning to a twin K3/100 system and I hope that I don't have so many issues with the twin like I have with two boxes connected to a laptop.

Here are my settings:

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Re: No SSB Audio during transmit
« on: 2012-05-27, 05:24:12 »
Mike,

Excerpt from my friend who fixed this with assistance from Mitch. Thanks to both Tony, N6RO, and Mitch, DJ0QN!

From Tony:

The problem with the audio was due to the mic - when we swapped it out I was able to get rough modulation and then by putting the audio settings up to 2 (which I believe is the default) we got quite nice audio quality.  I am fine tuning things now but wanted to say a quick word of thanks for your (Mitch) time today and confirm that your instincts were correct as we did discuss the mic as a possible root cause of the issue.

The problem with HRD being hung was a simple unplug/replug at the radio site.   I am looking at ways to stabilize the software set up a little, but we are up and running finally and I expect Keith will have a lot of fun with the remote setup in the coming weeks.

Thanks again to one and all especially Mitch, Tony and Mike.  Most of all for the forums patience and great advice.

Yes I have struggled getting this to work. With Mitch's help we got it working on my internal LAN at home but of course that is not my end objective with the Remoterig system.

We are trying to get it set up properly remote away from my house and the shack with both ICS and a network bridge to my AT&T 3G, getting it work from a "hotel" aka friends house, and now getting the audio to work to the FT450 in this remote condition.

The challenges that we have faced are more related to networking than remoterig itself. Network considerations can add time to configuration. I am not sure two minutes would be a fair estimate on what it takes to set up remoterig itself  but I definitely do agree that two months is likely an a much longer time than usual for setup.

Thanks for the substantive recommendations. We will check those this morning and report back our findings.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / No SSB Audio during transmit
« on: 2012-05-26, 08:53:34 »
A little further now. My buddy has my Remoterig at his house and we are almost there. We have rig control and a solid connection.

We got CW working perfectly but no audio signal in SSB. The ALC shows no signal.  Wiring in the RRCs is as described in manual. Not sure what is going on.  This is a bummer but we got it really close now.

Everything seems to be working except the modulation. We could not get ANY audio thru no matter what we tried.  When I tried it direct with my microphone directly to the ft450 without the unit I was heard fine by my friend ten miles away.

We are thinking it could be my router which I just upgraded to from Cox Communication here in San Diego.  It is a Netgear CG3000D and it does not have a selection for SIP ALG disabling. My friend who is a long time IT professional thinks that my router maybe the issue. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

I am on month three of trying to set this up and I know we are getting closer.

Any timeline on product sale?  Really could use this as I am completely stuck and cannot easily get to wireless networks on the road.

Mike,

Thanks! I downloaded the 450s CAT control program. I will try that out as soon as I figure out how to connect wirelessly between the laptop and the Remoterig.

Well I wanted to provide an update.  Mitch got it done.  He was awesome!  I am now ready for remote operations.  The only thing that concerns me is related to instability of HRD and the fact that it freezes and does strange things to COM ports like makes them disappear.  I need a suggestion for a better CAT program. Any suggestions?

I am running traditional old school remote with a laptop and HRD but am now considering a twin situation. I also need some help with setting up a CAT port on a laptop to connect through to my 3G USB wireless card.  I tried to follow the instructions for ICS on the Microsoft website but I could not get it to work properly.

Thanks,

Keith

In terms of ports it creates, it generates the following COM ports

RRC1258 COM port 0
RRC1258 COM port 1
RRC1258 COM port 2
RRC1258 COMFSK

It does not create the Microbit RRC Virtual COM port. Not sure why. I have reinstalled Microbit so I am wondering if it has something to do with my laptop. dell Inspiron 14 with windows 7 professional.

Thanks,

Keith

I am on weekend #2 on configuring the Remoterig to my FT450AT and went through the settings very closely and I still can get it connect on the same router for receive and transmit, but cannot get HRD find the virtual port and fails to launch.

The Microbit setup program just won't create the Microbit virtual port. It creates other ports but no Microbit virtual port.  I have Mitch who has volunteered to assist me on Sunday but I am still working through this and I am hoping to try and fix it. I feel like I am close but still challenged.

I was also wondering if using a standard RS232 serial cable is causing any issues.  I am using a standard serial cable RS232 that I used with the FT450AT before with my computer.

Any help for a newbie would be very much appreciated.
