tnx Mike. I just hooked up this configuration and it's solid. I also found that the mic for the Btech mobile 2m radio on my desk is plug and play compatible with the remoterig mike jack.

The manual covers General setup with PC control with the PC is running a control application such as HRD. It does not cover the situation where no control whatsoever is desired.

I have a K3-twin configuration. I want to repurpose it for SunSDR2. I don't plan to use CAT since I will be using remote desktop for rig control. All I need is to get the speaker, key and mic working at the control side.

My plan is to just change the Program Mode from 14 (Elecraft Twins) to 4 (Yaesu, Kenwood, Elecraft) in setup and to leave the jumpers as they are. Will this work? Are there any other changes I need to make to the K3/twin configuration to get this working?

Also, I am accustomed to turning on the K3/0 to make the connection. How does this configuration turn on/off, or does it just stay connected always?

Yes, the built in speakers do work.

General discussion / No Sound - Dongle problem?
« on: 2015-02-24, 18:29:37 »
Last spring I briefly used the device but the sound failed after a few days. I re-installed the software and drivers, but was unable to get it going again. Since the software was beta at that time, I decided to wait for new software before investing more time. I have a k3 - k3/0 remoterig system working and stable.

This week I downloaded the latest RRC software (ver 1.7) and tried again with no success (lenovo w520, win7 pro). Thinking it might be the laptop, I installed the software on a Dell Inspiron 5520 and tested for sound. Still no sound.

At this point, I am wondering if I have a defective dongle?

Here is my previous post from last spring...

General discussion / RRC Micro on/off

Can the Micro be set to  turn the K3 on/off or do I need to leave the radio turned on all the time to use it?

General discussion / Re: No audio buffer indication Win 7

Sounds similar to my problem. See my post. I was able to see green bars on the 1274a when I selected the computer speaker as default, but don't get any audio. No solution yet.

I've drilled down on this a bit more. When I select the 1274a as the speaker, the sound comes out of the computer speaker. When I select the computer speaker, the windows panel shows audio on the 1274a (green bars moving), but no sound from the 1274a or the computer speaker. I have removed and reinstalled both the computer sound card and the 1274a to no effect. The windows sound test produces chimes in the computer speakers but not in the 1274a.  I am running a thinkpad w520 with Win7. any ideas?

I un-installed both sound cards (laptop and 1274a) and re-installed them. I re-booted a few times. Still just getting sound from the laptop sound card, regardless of which one is selected in the rrc menu. The 1274a is default in win7.

Question: when things are working properly, is it possible to run the windows sound test (3 chimes in each ear) on the 1274a and hear the chimes? When I run this test I get silence.

I had everything set up and working fine. Made Q's on cw and ssb. Then I got a loud continuous squeal in the headset while I was calling the ZL7 and wasn't able to get it to stop, despite rebooting. So, I rolled back win7-64 bit to a point when things were working and was able to make it operational with (hopefully) just one quirk remaining.

My quirk is that I only get audio through the computer speakers. Regardless of which speakers I select in the RRC menu, audio comes from the computer speakers. The 1274a is the default selection for speakers. I believe this is because the RRC audio isn't functioning properly, so the computer switches to speakers that are functioning? For example, in the Sound menu of Win7, when I test the 1274a for audio, I hear nothing, while testing the computer speakers emits the test tones.

Any suggestions? tnx...

I just received the Micro from HRO. I have the trial version loaded on a laptop. How do I activate the full version of the software? Also, I have two laptops I want to use. I could not load even the trial on the second laptop. The error message says the my callsign is already in use on the first laptop. True, but I need it to run on both... thanks...

Talked to Elecraft. It's a known issue which will be addressed someday. It's a display glitch on the local which does not affect operation.

I have a k3-k3/0 set up going. Previously, I had a switch connected to the acc socket on the k3 to match the antenna to the band. Now, the ACC socket with the band output is occupied by the RRC1258 I/O connection.

How do I get band information to the antenna switch?

General discussion forum / PTT switches local from USB to CW
« on: 2013-11-06, 17:02:13 »
Just installed k3 with k3/0.  Front panel PTT switches local from USB to cw mode (remote stays in USB). When I release PTT, local goes back to usb mode. If I press XMIT on front panel instead of mike PTT, local stays in USB mode. Checked all wiring and config settings. I am out of ideas. Any suggestions?
