I have found that not every public internet site has the necessary ports enabled to allow for an RRC and K30 to operate correctly. They must only have ports open for viewing a web page and sending email.

I am speaking of a wired eithernet connection in a hotel or public location that allows you to plug into them but when I try to connect to my home K3 it will connect, allow audio to pass, but not allow control of the K3. It will also lock up my home K3 by not allowing the remote RRC to disconnect correctly therefore holding the K3 ACC in a high state keeping the K3 LCD panel backlight on and not allowing any further control of the K3. In this case my home station is in total lock up and requires me to power cycle the remote RRC when I return home!

I am going to purchase a remote AC power switch so I can try to reset my RRC from a remote location, but is there any way to know in advance or test the connection to see if there is a port issue? At other locations, I have not problems at all.

Mitch,

I sent you an email with attachments of the config of both RRC's. Please contact me off list after you have an opportunity to review the files and we can discuss it.

Thanks,

There are times when I just have to wait about 30 seconds and the K30 and K3 will link. Other times I have to cycle the term/norm 2 times to force a link.

Mitch,

I have updated my K30 mini fw to the same as I run in my K3 5.14 and I still have the issue of having to cycle the config button to term/norm 2 times to link the units.

I have had some success as well as continuing problems controlling my remote K3 from my K30. The problem currently is that my remote K3 will turn on but the K30 dose not gain full control of the K3, and the the K3 at the remote location locks up and I must cycle the power at the remote RRC to be able to turn the K3 off and then on again.

Tech support at Elecraft thinks that this may be due to some Apple router compatibility issues. I have in the past been able to control my remote K3 with no issues and now i can not. Elecraft thinks the issue is UDP packet curuption on the server (Apple router) end. This may be due to the SIP ALG not being turned off. When i search the topic of SIP ALG for the Apple router, i find that there is no such function that can be changed on my router, but a reference to the NAT protocol which should be on or off?

I know there has been discussion regarding the Apple router, and I would appreciate any help resolving this issue.

When starting up the linkage to my remote K3 with my K30 from a remote location, the K3 will start up and the audio comes through the K30 but I have no control of the remote K3 unless I do the following:

I must push and hold the K30 config button for 5 seconds two times to force the remote K3 into the term mode to allow lonkage of control between the K3 and K30. After I do this, everything works fine. I had the tech at elecraft take control of my K3 as well and they had the same issue. I am running the same latest firmware V 2.85 on both RRC units and the configuration of both RRC's is correct and the ports and audio settings do match up.

The tech at elecraft told me the the remote RRC at my K3 should be sending a command to my K3 to put it into the correct remote operating mode but this is not occuring and I have to manualy force it into communicating with my K30.

Any ideas on a solutionfrom other users who have had this issue?

Thanks,

I have recently started to use my RRC pair with a K30/mini from various locations. Many hotel rooms have free wired internet service but will require you to enter a password to gain acess to the free internet. this is no problem if you are using a computer, but how can you access the internet for a link when only using a K30?

I tried to log on with the computer and then change the RJ-45 connection to the RRC but as expected, the connection was lost.

General discussion forum / K3-0 & K3 clicking sound in audio

I am running my K3-0 mini and K3 along with my RRC's and all is working well. i notice that I have a steady low level ticking sound on my transmitted audio. If I am not talking, I can also hear ticks of various rates when ever any other function on the remote K3-0 is moved i.e. af gain tuning, width, rit etc. These are the digital signals going out over the network, but are they normal, and can they be decreased in any way?

I already have one of those cables and was avoiding cutting it up. I guess you only have to cut 2 wires internal to the cable and re connect them. Can you please give me the colors for each end? Will this cable mod stop any other function used on this cable when not used with the RRC's?

Thanks,
Howard

In setting up my own K3 & KPA500 for remote operation I have to make up a new interface cable from the K3 to the KPA which includes an additional wire for remote on off. It is basically a VGA cable with a wire added. How have most of the users here made up this cable? From scratch with a set of DB 15 connectors, or modified an existing VGA cable if you can get into the connectors as most of them are molded?

Mitch,

Is my dynamic DNS adr the xxxxxxx.dns.remoterig.com, and where in the set up page do I enter the sipcontact? I dont see a space for that info on the remote unit web page?

Thanks,
Howard
