I wrote a request in the HRD forum but no reply from the developement team so the problem is still the same ...

May be it helps if you can also add a message in the section "HRD 6.2 Rig Control"  threat "RRC-1258 Interface: virt. USB ports under Win10 and HRD6.3 not available" ...

Hello,

so today I checked the remote system (Remnote Ham Radio) with another ham here in germany. So the status is as follow:

1) The control of the K3 and also SSB/phonie TX/RX works perfekt.
2) If I try digimode there will be only some short bursts (a second and the about 5 up to 10 seconds nothing an then another burst) of audio and no continuously signal.

For digimode I use the headphone output of the PC connected with a stereo cable to the K3mini remote Mic Input. Only ground and tip are connected, ring is open. If I send high levels of audio I can hear the PSK/RTTY signal in the K3 loudspeaker (with very sound level) and so the input signal seems to be ok but on the TX side there are only these short burst audible. I try USB-mode and also digimode A for PSK but the result is the same.

May be the impedance of the headphone output is a problem?? I don't now so if anybody has an idea please let me know ...

Peter

hello,

so I de-install all the USB drivers and install the RRC-1258MKII with out any new driver manual installation. I saw the COM port in the device manager of Windows 10 but the COM ports (only the CAT) for FSK and CW keying are not selectable in the Ham radio Deluxe dialog.

I heard from other users that they got exactly the same problem so it seems to be a issue with HRD and Win10 ...

So one question is how can I get the driver installed via the setup manager out of my operating system without deleting all the USB drivers because this is my office PC and I had a few USB devices connected to this PC. Hard work do reinstall all.

So if I deinstall the setup manager will the USB drivers and the sources for the driver installed for sure? Sometimes if a driver in deleted with the Windows device manager the driver source is still in the operating system and if the device is reconneted this deinstalled driver will be used again by the automatic driver install process of Windows. That is the reason why I am asing this specific question.

The USB Com ports in the RRC do not use drivers provided by us at Microbit. They use a driver from Microsoft which is included in Windows. What we at Microbit do are just to include the required "INF files" which are used to tell Windows that we want it to use its USB Com port driver for the RRC. Without them the ports would be "unknown" by Windows.

Also, in the RRC we provide support in its firmware for those Com ports so that Windows is able to communicate with them and present them as ordinary COMx ports.

Hello, so I installed the setup manager WITH the drivers offered in the installation dialog. Tomorrow I will deinstall the setup manager with drivers, disconnect RRC1258 and after restart connect the RRC1258 and hopefully the Win drivers will be installed. I do not use the USB ports for controlling the K3 mini so should I also delete this drivers via the device manager? I will use the K3 mini audio codec for receiving audio only.

Hallo,

that's great to hear. So thanks in  advance to the Microbit crew!

Hi Sam,

so we both have the same problem. It is good to know, what this seems to be undependend of the application used for CAT controlling. I think it should be a COM port driver problem with Windows 10.  So Microbit/Remoterig should check the Windows 10 compilance of the virt USB driver ... - is there a special support email or do the Remote Rig crew also track the forum?

I checked the COM ports with FLdigi and there I can select all the RRC1258 COM Ports. So may be this is an issue of HRD and not of RRC1258 hardware or drivers. So any confirmation of the issue form anyone ...

Hello, I upgrade my PC from Win 7 to Win 10 and also update HRD to the latest version 6.3. I am using  K3 mini connected to the 1258 for the RHR service. The 1258 is connected to the PC via USB.

The first problem is that I can not see the virtual COM ports of the RRC 1258 in HRD settings any more - for example for setting up CW RTS keying of RTTY FSK. But in the device control I see the 4 COMs of the 1258 and also the 2 COMs of the K3 mini. But in the USB port selection of HRD CW/RTTY setting some ports will be offered for the selection - like the K3 mini ports - but not the ports of the 1258. I try updateing the drivers but without any positiv result.

The second problem is as follow: After starting HRD and connect to the K3 mini with the COM port for CAT the connection will be established and the frequency will be read out once and shown in the radio panel of HRD. But if I tune on the K3 mini to another frequency the QRG on the HRD radio panel will not follow. But if I change the frequency in the radio panel of HRD the frequency at the remote station and K3 mini will be changed. But before updating to Windows 10 and HRD 6.3 the frequency readout works.

So I want to ask if anyone has the same problems. I do not know if the problem will be Windows 10, or may be the 1258 drivers. may be there is a issue with the driver compatibiliy to Windows 10? Another possibility will be that the HRD 6.3 version has a problem with Windows 10.

Hello Mark  (K6UFO),

many thanks for the reply. Ok so I have to use the MIC In/SPK Out on the K3 remote and connect these to the PCs audio sound card. I thought USB works also in the TX direction because the windows system detects an audio codec on the USB of the K3 remote but it seems to be not transport any audio signal. What a pity - USB would be great for easy handling.

I will read your publications on your web site - very interesting.

thanks for your answer

Hello,

I set up a K3 mini remote with a RRC-1258 MkII interface connected via a RRMINICBL cable. The K3 mini is also connected via USB to a WIndows 7 PC. The usb drivers are installed.

So I start testing with a ssb and all works fine but I want to use digimodes and so I setup Ham Radio Deluxe 6. CAT works and I can receive and decode digimode signals via the USB audio codec. The only problem is that the audio level on the usb codec connection is very low and the level depends on the position of the AF level knob on the K3 mini. I thought that the level on the usb audio codec connection is independend of the AF knob and always offering full scale level.

So I try to send psk data via the Ham radio Deluxe.  If I am transmitting I can monitor (with K3 mini monitor function) some very short chirp sound/clicks only. I see RF out signals on the Remote Ham Radio Web interface only then these short chirps/clics appear but no psk data stream.

In the Ham Radio Deluxe software I can see the generated signal in the monitor panel and I can also see the psk TX modulation in the windows audio mixer level bargraph but there is no psk data signal on the K3 TX site. I try normal USB mode or data mode A but the same problem.

I thought the problem will be usb connection and so I am using an stereo audio cable between the headphone out of the PC and the MIC in of the K3 mini but with the same result: no audio on TX site ...

So my questions are
1) why is the receiving audio level so weak and why is it not independed of the AF knob.
2) why is there no audio signal on the K3 TX site if I am using digimode/usb audio codec?

Any idea?
In checked also the jumpers inside the RRC-1258 but they seems to be OK (J1 left open all other set). In the bridge/IC socket I saw there is a resistor set as factory default instead of the wire for the connection to the microphone in port of the microphone connector. Is this correct for the K3?

Hello,

has anyone compare the quality of a audio streaming for digimodes like PSK31 from a remote location vs. a direct connection without 1258MKII's?

I am interesting in knowing more about the codec used in the 1258MKII. Some types of digimodes are very sensitiv for nonlinear distortion and so it can be happend that low level digital signals via an audio compressed link can not be decoded (depending on the codec algorithm) or only with a higher error rate.

Would be great to here some experiences from HAMs using 1258MKII with PSK and other modes like JT65 etc.

Peter

Hello, so I got a reply from RHR that the RRC Micro software does not work with RHR.
@Mitch: so you are absolutly right - thanks for your support!

But now an app for the Chrome browser is available for RHR as and this works - not perfecly (it is just a early beta and still in development ...) but seems to be a good alternative. You can use K3 remote functionality and also PTT CAT. Try it it with FL digi 6 fl remote but this is not the right place to discuss.

May be I have to move to an hardware solution with the 1258MII because of the better quality of the audio codec compared to the codec implemented in RHR web interface but we will see.

So I think I will close this discussion here and start a new one about the audio codec quality of the 1258MKII in another section of this forum ...

Peter

Hello Mitch,
I had sent an email to Lee app. 2 weeks ego. So I will still waiting for a few days and I there is no reply I try will again. He replied to me with a hardware list neccessary for RHR remote controlling but not replying on the question about the Micro software solution.
