I notice lots of conversations re the 7300 and RR1258

But - has anyone used a pair of IC-7300s successfully together ?

I am enquiring for a friend who has a pair of 7300 one at a holiday home.

General discussion forum / Win4Icom with RR
« on: 2021-08-22, 21:56:06 »
Hi all
Just enquiring if anyone else has been trying Win4Icom with RR?
I see there have been several comments about Win4K3..
I'm using the Control port on my RR1258MKII (Com 5) with an IC7100 , connected as the Radio Connection on the Win4Icom software ,but get lock ups and error messages after a short time, although everthing seems ok initially. Tom VA2FSQ is suggesting that RR is perhaps returning corrupted data OR times out possibly due to power saving issues. I've been through all the power saving on drivers and USB ports and changed their status to off.
Is anyone else using this software for Icom radios with RR??

I would love to hear from you !

Thanks Mike

I will connect the units together on the bench with only a router/switch - hopefully that will produce an answer .
I have two IC7100 radios - I have changed them over including all associated leads .... the same intermittent audio fault is with both radios... it is not a mic bias problem.
To elaborate slightlly on previous coments...
When the fault is evident ,resetting either control RRC or radio RR via the PCs resolves the problem for around 5 or 6mins then the problem may re occur. ... switching off the remote 12v supply does the same - turning the RADIO on or off does not clear the problem....

If I connect via Icom Remote Utility and RS-BA1 there is no problem (but no useable CW either !)

Thanks for the placement drawing and continued assistance.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply ...

The fault is still intermittently there unfortuantely .... I guess I will have to bring the two units into a repair area to check ...
Yes I have used several other mics ! It is NOT a mic issue....

I don't understand your comment ""There is only a few components beween the codec and connector and non is active""
Surely if component C65 or C81 on P234 for example went faulty there could be a loss of audio ???

Perhaps you could email me the placement drawing 1258B-7 which may help .... many thanks Mike

Thanks Mike ...
Well I have checked the red straps and reseated each one, having cleaned the links ...
After 10mins or less of operating the audio fades away to virtually nothing in the middle of an over - FM or SSB...

Thanks Mike

I don't think it's a codec switching issue as it can (frequently) happen in the middle of an "over" and just fades out over a second or two, but at other times it is immediatly there on TX.  I've changed RTP tx to continuous but again as it can happen mid over I don't think that's it .

It's like bias on an op-amp is fading or maybe a voltage regulator - but I've changed the radio and still have the same issue.

Any other thoughts / ideas please ?

Hi all

I've been using the RR-1258 for nearly 3 years now with my IC-7100 but recently started to lose transmit audio on SSB and FM.

Tx audio (SSB and FM) dissappeared 6 times during a 3 hr VHF (50Mhz) contest tonight. Using N1MM as logger and controlling radio , head in the home shack and body of radio at remote.

When the fault is on, audio sometimes can JUST be heard with a low level clicking (almost a purring sound). The low level audio obviously producing very low RF output on SSB.
Deviation on FM is also very low or non existant in the fault condition .
I have changed the IC 7100 radio as I have a spare - both ends ...the fault still occurs.
I've changed the microphone.
No issues on Data or CW. It's as though the radio "Data Off Mod" is switched to USB and not MIC - it's NOT though!
Resetting either control or radio resolves the problem for around 5 or 6mins then the problem re occurs. ... switching off the remote 12v does the same.

Without the fault, the system works very well.

It's beginning to look like a RR-1258 unit fault (snr 11960) but would love some advice.

Any ideas greatfully accepted !!

Hi Jerry

Glad you are fixed.

I still have an intermittent audio problem that is driving me nuts.
Tx audio (SSB and FM) dissappeared 6 times during a 3 hr VHF (50Mhz) contest tonight. Using N1MM as logger.
Resetting either control or radio briefly resolves the problem ... switching off remote 12v does the same.

When the fault is on, audio sometimes can JUST be heard under low level clicking (almost a purring sound)

I have changed the IC 7100 radio as I have a spare - both ends ...the fault still occurs.
It's beginning to look like a RR1258 unit fault (snr 11960)

Is this sorted now Jerry ?
I was looking at my 7100 connections over a network as I have intermittent audio on TX and trying to trace why that is happening (unsuccessfully!)  - and there are a few differences although nothing major I can see ...

I would personally never use the WiFi module again though . That was nothing but a headache !

I concur George ! I tried something similar - and had the same issue.  My call is often confused with G3TXF - and I tried the same ... fortunatly just using >> and << either side of my "K" was sufficent to differentiate things !

Hi Chris
You can use the RRC1258 COM2 (COM4 for me) ie Rig control .. use the same Com port for WSJT-X
BUT you need a VAC from the 7100 to WSJT .
I actually use RS-BA1 as well as RR at the same time - that way I have 2 x VACs available and it all works well .

Good advice there from Mitch , Duncan ... RS-BA1 is ok - but NOT for any serious CW oepration.
I use both for my remote operation, with an IC7100 - and they have their pros and cons !

RRC-1258MkII is undoubtedly the answer for any serious CW operation ...
- you will have great fun configuring it  ;)

""Note ! IOS is no longer maintenanced so they may stop working"""

I want to buy a 1216H webswitch to use with my iPhone - can anyone confirm that it is NOT supported by iOS ?
The above sentance on the Webswitch page is not exactly clear.

Thanks

Just as a follow up re using an LP-100A remotely .
It doesn't work through RR
But I've purchased a USR-Vcom serial to ethernet adapter and using that in conjunction with the LP-100 Virtual Control panel all is working well, apart from I discovered a NULL MODEM cable is required at the output of the LP100 before the USR unit - maybe that is why others have had problems ?

Still seems a pity that either the LP100 producers can't reduce the baud rate from 115,200 or RR can match through the serial port
