I've tried succesfully the R2500 with RRC1258MkIIs and the icom supplied remote control panel.

My problem is that the functionalities through the remote panel are limited and via sw it is easier, more user friendly and more functionalities are available (e.g. the signal spectrum).

So, I'd like to use a software (?) + the RRC1258 (better the RRC micro PC client) to control remotely my R2500.

Unfortunately, as you may know, ham radio deluxe (HRD) does not support the R2500 and any trick described on the net to mask it as a PCR1000 (supported by HRD), under win 7 does not work at all.

the ICOM original provided SW cannot be used, since it has proprietary USB drivers that require the receiver to be plugged on locally on the laptop on which the sw is executed, so another option vanished. On this regard, I tried succesfully to remotize the USB (thorugh a specific sw), but not the 2 COM ports (commands and audio), that is what RRC should be able to do ...

So, now my idea is to try to use another sw I just purchased, th Bonito RadioCom 6.x, that I have not yet installed and tested, but I understood it should just use a com port for CV-I commands (I'd like to use that one provided by the RRC1258 as shown in a generic Icom CV-I configuration) and then the audio, that should be covered by the RRC itself (maybe, I should pass it to the laptop sound card, and use it with the RadioCom 6?).

Any suggestion from your side?

If this configuration could work, it would e wonderful.

Thx in advance for any help you would like to provide me.

I understand your point.
this is ok, nevertheless, you still need to open some ports.
cheers.

what I mean is the following, but I could be wrong, missing something...
you can use vpn or ssh if you have (on the control side) a pc (so you are using the ppc client) or do you have a full control on the router (and this is not the case if you're traveling and if you connect for example from a hotel). now, if you use as control unit a rrc1258 and you do not have a full control over the router on the control side (see above example), than, you have to open the 3 connection ports on your router at home (radio side), otherwise, how could you connect to your rrc at home side?
am I wrong on something? ???

thx a lot understood.

thx a lot now it's more clear.
I imagine that the resistance 1K2 means 1K ohm, and if I need just to use a led, I can just connect it in the same way as for the diode within yhe 4n35.
while, if I need a led together with the relay, I'll connect it (clearly with 1K ohm resistance) btw the +12 and the collector of the 4n35.
Am I correct?
regards.

if you refer to this thread (http://www.remoterig.com/forum/index.php?topic=341.0), I'm not able at all to open the gif files. I do not know why. I tried in several ways, could you help me?
thx in advance.

;)... and it will be Ham like to sign a thread with a name or call sign - or is this also very secure, HI

Am I correct?

Chris, you are right with regard to the communication itself, but I'm concerned about the rig that is exposed on internet without any type of protection and you know there are guys, which hobby is to penetrate firewalls. basically the web pages, also if you change the port 80 are completely exposed (password without encryptions is not very strong) and they can easily access your rig. this is my real concern.
any suggestion?
cheers.

Almost all routers can be setup to create a VPN tunnel between two routers often using IPSEC, so it's no problem to build a secured setup.

But why bother if it's used for ham radio all audio will be sent out over the air for everyone to listen to ?

You are right, but this assumes that on the control side you have full control of th router and this is not the case when you are travelling and for example you connect from a Hotel.

Is there any way to protect the communication between two RRCs? I mean apart from the password.
I imagine that if I use the PPC Client, I can go through a VPN, since I use a PC, but what about when do I use 2 RRC? I'v to expose to the router the 3 ports, but communications are not encrypted. Am I correct?

I'd like to know how to use the I/O connectors and just few examples of electronic circuits to transfer some I/O signals between the 2 RRC.
e.g. if I switch on a contact on the RRC-control, how to activate e relay on the RRC-Radio, or how to get a relay or led on on the RRC-Control, activated by a status signal on the RRC-Radio. Which supply should I use? I suppose the 8V on the connector are non enough to use relays...
Idas about which other ways could I use these I/O signals (apart from keyers, CW pads, etc.).
could be this one a replacement of the webswitch?
I really appreciate.
thx in advance.
