Am also using 3G and almost always CW.  Settings I use are audio quality 0 - alaw 8 Khz, Rx jitter buffer 15, jitter delay 14, audio packet size 10 and on keyer settings lf delay 650 and key delay 200.  With these settings I can cope up to 200ms latency - if it goes higher than that I start getting dropouts.  These may not be optimum settings, but they are the ones that work best for me.

Amplifier up and running with full remote.  Used a Brainbox ES-246 which had Win7 driver software.  No problems whatever in setting up...
Thanks to all for comments.....

Thanks Guy.  Have had a look at the links on some of your previous posts and think I know where to go from here....

Hi Guy,
I have been looking at adding an additional comport for the PA for some time and the solution appeared to be a serial server at the remote end - I assumed matching software at the control end would be necessary to interface ethernet to PC.  I have been playing around with a Hexin serial to ethernet server - no problem seeing it and configuring it on the system using the hexin software, but it came with Tibbo software for setting up the PC port and that was not win7 friendly.  The SPE software on the PC is looking for a comport and thats as far as I have been able to get so far...
Still a lot to learn!

Hi Mitch/Simon
Thanks for that...  It confirms my original concern that it just looked too good to be true.  It appears that Com2 at the remote will continue to be used for CAT control, so no gain.  So its back to sourcing an RS232 to ethernet convertor for the remote end and virtual comport software at the control end that will work with Win7.  That should do the job, but the problem is plenty of stuff out there for XP but very little for win7.
If anyone has tried going that route for the additional comport, and is running win7, I would appreciate any feedback.....

I am currently using version 2.26, IO for keying, RS232 for CAT control and RS232 for rotator control, all to TS480 and Prosistel over ethernet/3G link.  Everything is working fine, although took a bit of tweaking to get around latency problems on 3G leg.  I note that upgrade to version 2.35 suggests USB ports can be used for CAT?  I am reluctant to immediately upgrade to explore this further as current version is working well and its a long way to the site, but need additional port for amplifier control.  Details are a bit short on what is involved in switching from RS232 to USB for CAT control of the Kenwood if I upgrade.  Has anyone done this, and am I correct in thinking I then have a spare RS232 for Amp monitoring?

General discussion forum / TS480 Keying

Hi All...    Am setting up the TS480 for CW, using paddle to PAD socket and PAD socket at radio end  to Key input on TS480.  Followed settings as per the book.  Only way I can get CW to work is to press PTT on Mic (red tx light on control head lights but no TX) then use paddle to generate CW.   I have tried various settings on IO settings, only one that produces any result is Out2 where selecting PTT provides full PTT with tx, or Keyer, which provides CW operation but only if PTT on Mic is pressed.  Out1 and Out2 make no change, irrespective of their settings.  Have checked all connections and they seem ok. It looks like I am missing something basic??

Many thanks for responses and advice...   it was a config problem, now sorted, and everything working fine.

Re the lack of 9V on pin 2.  The measured voltage on the pins at 6-pol into the control head as follows:
1   Ground
2   0.6V (fluctuating 0.2 to 0.6)
3   Ground
4   5V
5   4.9V
6   no volt  (150 ohm to ground approx)
The 9V appears on the pin at jumper 2, but not at the cable.

If the 6-pol lead is connected to the 480 transceiver, these measurements are the same, with the exception that I now measure 9V on pin 2.  With a direct connection from 480 transceiver to control head, the control head works fine.
So I have a problem in the RCC in getting 9V at pin 2.   Any suggestions?
Dave

Thanks for reply Gordan.  When you connected to control head, were you able to switch on and get power to control head, or was it necessary to have two RRC units set up with transceiver connected to radio RRC before control head would come live when switched on?  I know we are missing something very simple here as control head switches on fine when connected direct to transceiver.
Thanks for your help

Hi all,
Took delivery new units yesterday, for remote operation of Kenwood TS480.  Another ham in EI took delivery of another two units on same day.  We both have the same problem - no 9V on pin two of cable for control head.  Cable double checked and correct.  Checked at TTL terminal on 1258 (the correct unit, the one with CW control), no 9V.  Everything else appears on, PWR light normal operation, 12V supply ok.  Control head operates fine when connected direct to transceiver.  Are we both missing something basic, or is there maybe a problem that others have found in the new MK2 batch of units?
Any help much appreciated...

Hi,
Am thinking of remote operation.  Currently using IC7400 with logger 32 interfaced through C1-V so get auto fx/band/dx spot setup etc.  I dont want to lose that, nor do I particularly want to go route of HRD with virtual ports to run Logger 32/HRD together.  If I switch to the IC706 for remote operation, is there anywhere at the local end that Logger 32 can interface to pickup the information it currently gets via the C1-V?
