General discussion forum / Re: TS-480 and Link-Comm DSP404

Hello All:

Install was yesterday and it went very well.

The Remote Rig and the DSP404 are both working. I will need to make a few audio adjustments for the repeater interface, but the Remote Rig interface was no problem.

We had to mount the "non-centered dipole" on the tower and it comes too close to a guide wire, so we are looking for a different type of antenna. Due to restrictions at the commercial site, it would be best to install a SINGLE leg Slopper..

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Tim

Thanks Mike..

Can the RC-2500 be computer controlled thought the Remoterig?

Or do I just use the control head?

Hello All:

I have a PCR-2500 which interfaces to my computer with a USB cable. On the radio end it is a USB type B connection. On the computer end it is a USB type A connection.

The question is, can I hook-up the USB type B connector to the Comm 1 port of the "mountain side (remote)" of the Remote Rig and the USB type A connectors to the Comm 1 of the "at the house side (local)" Remote Rig and use the speaker out audio into and out of the appropriate boxes?

Will the audio pass though the Remote Rigs and will I be able to control the PCR-2500 via the computer locally with the "black box (receiver) on the mountain?

Thanks,

Tim

Thanks,

Tim

Hello All:

The TS-480 has been installed on a shelf, along with the Remote Rig and is ready to be installed on the mountain. Our plan is for install on July 3, 2010.

I have also mounted a DSP squelch from Naval Electronics that connects from the front 6 pin din port and the radio 232 port to a port on the RLC-DSP404 controller. This equipment will allow TT access to the HF remote from a repeater system. The "Naval" unit adjusts, to get rid of the white noise and pass audio into the repeater system.

All is working well on the bench.

The Remote Rig seems to be working perfect.

I will provide updates as I have them.

Hello All:

I just got a Navigator and connected it to my IC-756 Pro at my home station. Within a few minutes I had made my first PSK 31 contact to a JA.

This was very cool.

I have a RRC-1258MkII, which I will use to remote a TS-480SAT as the weather gets better.

The Navigator uses a 25 pin DB25P connector and they build cables that connect to the various radios. In looking at the cable layout for a TS-480 I see it uses ten of the pins, but two of them are SHIELD.

So the questions are:

If a nine pin cable was created on the "radio" end to be connected to the radio body at the placed needed in the radio for the Navigator to interface with, can this connection be connected to comm 1 or comm 2 on the RRC at the RADIO end?

And then on the control head end, a nine pin connector is connected to the same comm port and then to the 25 pin connector of the Navigator?

Are the "comm" ports on the RRC able to pass whatever is connected to them, to each other?

With a FAST internet connection, about 1ms delay between my remote site and the operating position, is it fast enough for this to work using the RRC's?

I have attached a file showing the cables needed between the Navigator and the TS-480SAT.

Thanks,

Tim

If your Home Network is in the 192.168.1.1 range, change the RRC's IP to 192.168.1.227 & 192.168.1.228.

I hope this helps,

Tim

Hello All:

I know it's me, but I just got the RRC and a new TS-480SAT. I have NOT used the RRC's yet, but I am trying to get my PC to talk to HRD. The configuration is a normal install..

Question?? does HRD allow the audio to be heard in the PC speakers directly from the HRD program? Or do I need to hookup a speaker to the TS480SAT?

I am NOT currently using the RRC interface.

Thanks,

Tim

Hello All:

I have talked to several folks that are / have used the TS-480 and it has been highly recommended, so I have purchased the TS-480.

I spoke with Rick, K6VVA who is a very big fan of the TS-480. I also asked Rick as the whether or not a program like HRD could be connected to the RRC in addition to the TS-480 control head and he was not sure.

So the remaining questions are can the RRC be interfaced with the TS-480 and be used by a computer running remote control software also? I assume NOT at the same time..

Is there any OSX (MAC) remote control software that will work with the RRC?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello All:

I have a RRC-1258MkII being shipped.

I have to purchase a new radio for the mountain that will be used with the RRC.

I want to be able to use the control head of the radio, I may also want to use HRD.

I may want to use "digital" modes.

I also want to be able to connect the "hill top" radio to a RLC-3 Link-Comm controller and use the HF remote with our Repeater System.

So, the question is WHAT RADIO" would you guys suggest and why?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello All:

I just ordered this product for a remote base that is planned for one of our mountain tops. Looking for a new rig and I am considering TS-480. I may wait until Dayton to see if any new equipment, with a remote head, are introduced. If anyone has any experience with the Kenwood, good or bad please let me know.

I have "fix" (static) IP that I am feeding to the hill with Tranzeo 5.8Gig stuff.

I run a full D-Star Stack (K6MDD) on the mountain also, which was installed July 1, 2006.

Thanks & 73'
