General discussion forum / Echoed dits in CW
« on: 2020-08-22, 14:42:54 »
Dear OM's,

I wonder if somebody has experienced this. I'm hearing echoed dits in my headphones when transmitting CW.

This happens both with an straight key or and iambic paddle with the keyer. It's always with the first dits. Echoed dits are heard while generating new dits in a way that you hear a very disturbing mess. This can happen on the first 7 or 8 dits. After some dits are sent, this strange behavior stops to happen.

It has nothing to do with the radio side. It's all in the control side. I have even checked with no computer and no other cables than the PSU and the pad. Just with this, it can be already felt.

Any ideas?

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Spid Rak rotor control issues
« on: 2020-08-15, 00:46:55 »
Hi all,

I'm writing this post after fighting for many days with this.

I'm an owner of a couple of RRC's, an RRC-Micro, an RC1216H and a webswitch. I find these devices to be very well resolved solutions.

I have recently replaced my old PST to a new Spid Big Rak rotator and I don't succeed on having it controlled through the RRC's system.

The highlights so far are:

-In the past, I had successful control of the PST rotor through the COM1 port of the RRC radio side.

-Now, I only have control of the new Spid Rak if direct connected through a local computer (direct connection from the controller to the computer COM1 serial port). No way through the RRC.

-As explained, I also own an RC1216H (I'm controlling an SteppIR 3L antenna through it). One of the tests I checked was to remotely control the Spid Rak controller through the RC1216H: With success! It's actually working through the RC1216H!

-I've tried the old PST cable and I've tried the new "standard RS232 cable" that it's delivered with the Spid Rak. No way.

-As far as I understand it, it seems that Spid Rak is finally controlled at 1200 bps. This final speed handling is done by the rotor program. I have tried to program the COM1 parameters to both 9600 bps (as usual) or 1200 bps. No result. 9600-n-8-1-0 with RTS/CTS set to "no".

-I even tried a different RRC unit at the radio side to discard unit problems. No, it was not the unit.

So, it seems it's something about the configuration or maybe about the cable from the RRC radio side to the Spid Rak controller.

What do you think DR OM's?

PS: The controller for the Spid Rak is a ROT 1 PROG, RS232 version.

General discussion / UDP cmd status = Error(0)
« on: 2019-09-17, 13:31:38 »
Dear OM's,

I'm experiencing problems with my RRCMicro connection and I'm not finding what's going on.

Let me first say that connection with the 2 x RRC1258's is superb. No problems at all when working with the RRC1258's so far.

But when I'm out of home and I want to use the RRCMicro (1274A) I've got problems even with excellent WiFi.

I am using v1.11.0.0 for RRCMicro and and v2.80 in RRC1258 radio side.

All ports (13000, 13001 and 13002) are correctly routed as UDP protocol in the router at radio side.

I have tried different RX Jitter buffer sizes and delays with no result.

This is what I can see in the RRC1258 radio side:

Name   Value
Radio   ON
Connection status   Faulty(See below)
SIP status   Connected/transfering
Last SIP error   None
RTP status   Excellent(60)
UDP cmd status   Error(0)
SIP command timeout   0
Rx Jitter buffer size   14
Rx Jitter delay   12
Dual Rx   0
Current audio packet size   20
Current audio quality   0 - alaw 8 kHz
External IP   83.54.215.68
SIP Out port   56364
SIP In port   13000
Audio Out port   56902
Audio In port   13001
Command Out port   0
Command In port   13002
External SIP In port   13000
External Audio In port   13001
External Cmd In port   13002
Other party   176.28.90.30
Input 1   High
Input 2   High
Output 0   Low
Output 1   Low
Output 2   Low
Dynamic DNS status   Unknown
Ping status (watchdog)   Off
DNS status   Querying status
Active profile:   Default
PTT status:   OFF
Antenna-Switch (IP)   not connected

It's true I haven't tried with another PC (maybe something on my PC? I'm running Windows 7 Professional, SP1).

Something to say: The green bar below the profile name in the RRCMicro client software is a disaster: It appears and disappears completely erratically.

One more thing: The router in the radio side is a 3G based one (anyway, it works fine with the RRC1258's).

What do you think? Any ideas?

Thank you!

General discussion forum / SteppIR, RRC1258's and RC1216H
« on: 2019-03-04, 09:33:08 »
Hi OM's,

In my current remote setup, I've got an SteppIR, a TS2000, a RRC1258 and a PC.

I use the SteppIR Y-cable which is connected to the RRC1258, the TS2000 and the DATA IN on the SteppIR controller. Then, the controller DATA OUT is connected to the PC. This way, if something goes wrong on the SteppIR, I could open a VNC connection to the computer and, through the VCP control software from N8LP, I could do a calibrate if necessary.

Somehow, the VCP control software stopped to work. As anyway I wanted to get rid of the computer, I thought that a RC1216H would be a nice addition.

Reading the RC1216H manual I can see the wiring instructions. But these doesn't show the case where you've got an RRC1258 on the setup.

As per my understanding, the only thing I have to do is to connect the RC1216H where I currently have the PC, isn't it? So I just let the Y-cable exactly as it is and I connect the RC1216H to the Steppir controller DATA OUT port.

Can anybody confirm this to me?

Dear OM's,

I need to update the way I'm remotely controlling my SteppIR 3-ele antenna and I'm planning to purchase an SDA100 controller and a RC-1216H.

I've seen that SteppIR is releasing now those controllers with some new firmware called Mustang.

Will the RC-1216H work with SDA100's with this new firmware?

Dear OM's,

I'm blocked in something that should be easy but I don't find what it is.

I've got my pair of RRC-1258 with a TS2000 on the radio side and the RC2000 on the control side. All built as per the instructions. All working perfectly after many years. With standard phone SSB all goes well.

I was wondering if FT8 could be worked remotely (not sure due to the sync time requirements) and I decided to go the easy way: An standard stereo cable from the RRC speaker to mic input in the PC and I produced a cable from the computer speaker to the MJ-88 Kenwood cable used for the AUX/Mic RRC port.

The cable I produced is very simple: A 3,5 mm mono jack with the live microphone line to pin 1 and ground microphone to pin 7.

The result is fine FT8 reception but no mic level at all, so no TX. There is no ALC reading in the radio.

I don't see where's my mistake.

Any ideas???

Dear OM's,

I'm trying to setup the Micro-PC dongle to use it with MixW or HRD DM780's.

My initial thinking was to use Virtual Audio Cable from Eugene Muzychenko that should work fine.

And it does partially: fine Rx but no Tx and this is because something goes wrong on the setup and I don't know why.

Here's what I do:

I create 2 virtual cables in VAC
In the RRC setup I choose VAC1 as speaker and VAC2 as microphone

This causes the following error message related to VAC2:

RRC MICRO: EXCEPTION
Couldn't open sound device Virtual Cable 2
(and, well, a large message with a "GetVolumeControl failed" among other strange texts)

If I change the microphone to Microbit then it works fine but for sure I've got my Tx signal in the dongle microphone
and I don't want that. I don't want a physical cable doing a loop back to the computer soundcard. I rather would like
to have a VAC2 injecting that signal by software to the dongle.

On the other side, VAC1 works fine with superb reception results and no physical cables: for sure I could do also that
on the Tx side, couldn't I?

Has somebody tried and resolved this question?

Hi OM's,

My setup includes a TS-2000, and SteppIR 3L and a RC-2000 remote head at the control side.

I've installed this weekend the RC-2000 remote head and I was previously using the RRC on with Kenwood mode 4 and that was ok with the "general" mode of use of the SteppIR antenna: I mean that mode where the SteppIR controller changes, ifself (all alone) the frequency when you change the frequency of the transceiver.

But now, with the use of the remote head, this no longer works. And I think it should. Or at least I'm sure there's the way!

So I have now the RRC's working on TS-2000 mode, with the remote head working ok but I haven't succeed on having the SteppIR controller automaticaly changing the frequency when I change the frequency on the remote head.

I have connected the COM port of the TS-2000, through the "Y cable" to the controller and the PC. Here's probably my mistake. Do I had to connect that to the RRC COM2 port instead to the PC? But how? How I do say to the controller that he's to read the RRC COM2 port?

By another hand, I'd love to have that "alternative PC control" (that was my intention). So, someway, having the controller reading the frequency from the radio COM port and, also, having an alternative control of the radio through a classic PC COM port (maybe by a VNC session).

So, in a brief, how you the people owning a TS-2000 with a remote head and the pair of RRC does the SteppIR control?

Any advise will be highly appreciated!!

Hi OM's,

I've been the last two days puzzled here around a connection problem with my remote TS-2000. That's driving me crazy!

I've got a proper connection between both two RRC's with a "connected/transferring" SIP status.

I even have a complete connection to a ProSisTel rotor through the COM1 front connector. I mean I'm able to remote control a ProSisTel rotor at the radio site.

But, when trying to connect to TS-2000 through HRD, no way!! Always HRD refuses to make the connection.

I've got that fatal message: "TS-2000, COM5, 9600, Failed to read frequency".

I've tried different com ports, different baud rates, all the possible combinations of CTS, DTR, RTS...

Let me say I've been working ok the last months. I don't know how this has started. I can only say I upgraded to firmware 2.26 at both sides. I have revised all the data and magnitudes 100 times...

Today, I've been on the radio side and I've checked a direct HRD connection and it has worked.

I also have checked with other programs at the control side here: TRX, ARCS. No result!

Has somebody experienced something similar?
Any idea?
Maybe is there something wrong with the unit?? How could I check it!?

One more information: I also have a RRC-Micro PC-Client and I've got the same situation...

Tks & 73!
