Right, but only sometimes  ;)

Thanks, Roland!

Maybe instead of having "(avoid this)", you should write "(warning: uses high bandwidth)"
instead? This would make it clearer what the possible issue is.

No, the newer series of Yaesu transceivers (FT-450/900/2000/5000/9000) is a different architecture
and is not compatible to the FT-1000.

Hi Josh,

The IC-7000 can not be used at all with RemoteRig with its head separated like the TS-480. The
TS-480 is not a top rig, but is excellent for its price class and satisfies most people. If you want
the best, then get a K3/100 and a K3/0 to remote control it. Of course, you get what you pay for  ;)

I have had an Astron SS-30 running for over five years 24/7 without a problem, but you may prefer
something with a fan running. Since it will be in a remote location, noise will not be an issue. Others
may chime in with their suggestions. I prefer Astrons, even though I need to import them from
the States, since they are not available here.

As for the cabling; just download and read the manual to understand that part. Like I wrote previously,
you will not need to build any cables if you buy the TS-480.

What is the logic of doing so for the TS-480 if the cables are all included anyway, except for one that you can get for a
couple of Dollars around the corner?

The cable sold by RemoteRig at http://shop.microbit.se/webshop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=56
is for an 8-pin microphone, the TS-480 has a standard RJ-45.

Josh,

Making cables is easy compared to building and modifying rigs as a radio amateur  ;)

Anyway, the TS-480 uses standard RJ-45 (ethernet) cables for the microphone input and
a semi-standard RJ-11 (3-line telephone cable) between the RRC and control head. The
European version includes a mobile mounting bracket that contains a second RJ-11 cable
(one long, one short). I think in the U.S. version you only have the long one, so you need
to go to Radio Shack or Fry's and buy a 3-line telephone cord (this has all the wires
connected, which you can see when looking at both sides of the connector).

Hi Göran,

You are right, I completely missed this new feature, now I know what you
were writing about.

The web page port has nothing to do with the Micro PC Client. That port is only used
to access the RRC via a web browser, for example: 192.168.0.224:8080.

The Micro PC Client only speaks to the radio RRC through the SIP port, so this is
what you need to put into the software. No TCP port number is necessary, only
use the radio's dynamic DNS or external IP address without a port number (like :8080)
at the end.

I just bought a simple analog headset to use and have never had a problem. I
just assumed the whole time that you couldn't use a different USB sound card
input and the selection was there to make sure you selected the proper input.

How did you connect a USB headset to the RRC-Micro? It only has analog jacks
on it. I have never had an audio problem with it, but am puzzled by how you are
using it with that headset.

Roland, I also vote for a COMFSK port. This should work even better than
on the RRC, since the audio stream is directly available from USB audio,
assuming the RTTY program can use this at the same time as the RRC-Micro.
If not, one could switch the RRC-Micro to the standard sound card in the
meantime.

« on: 2012-04-04, 09:40:20 »
Thanks, Roland, I didn't miss it! I installed it yesterday and tried it out quickly
with TRX-Manager. It seemed to work just fine, although I did not have much
time to go into details.

To be on the safe side, I deinstalled the old version before I installed the new one.
It still kept my profiles, which was nice (I made screen shots beforehand to be on
the safe side).

This will be great if it works now with all CAT software.....that was a major problem
with the old version. I need it for TRX-Manager and Win-Test, other users in my
group use DX Labs and other software, they will be happy now as well.

Thanks again!

Thanks, Pedro, that's why I mentioned adding ferrite cores a couple of postings ago.

The bible on RFI was written by Jim Brown, K9YC. You can download his document at:
http://audiosystemsgroup.com/RFI-Ham.pdf

Or a list of all his documents at:
http://audiosystemsgroup.com/publish.htm

This document would certainly interest many others on this forum.

« on: 2012-04-02, 16:21:33 »
Hi Dave,

Let me try to answer your questions as best that I can, others are welcome to join in:

- If there is an RFI problem on your audio, then it would most likely be this cable. The mic location is irrelevant, since
the RFI would occur on the radio side. All the internet is doing is acting like a long extension cord.

- It sounds like you may have a ground loop problem, if covering the mic solves some of the problem. That is why I
suggest trying it from a different room in the house. It is important also to keep the radio and its RRC on separate
12v supplies, even separate AC outlets in some cases make a difference.

- The antenna can always be an issue, that is a completely separate subject beyond the scope of this forum. This
depends upon a number of factors. I suggest that you get local assistance if you haven't already to make sure
that your antenna is correctly optimized.

I am not an RFI expert, but am trying to give you simple ideas where to look. You need to start trying to look for the
source of the problem by attempting variations on your setup.

You posted this in the wrong section.

This question comes up all the time, you could have done a forum search for a quick answer. For example:
