Ken,

You can manually change the com port assignment in Windows.

Basically, you use the following steps:

1) Go into your Device Manager
2) Go to Ports (COM & LPT)
3) Look for the Microbit port you wish to change
4) Right click and go to Properties
5) Go to "Port Settings"
6) Click on "Advanced"
7) Change the port number below as required

Save and you should be ok.

Caveat: I noticed that for some reason the Port Settings tab is missing from my
installation. I assume that this is a bug, and may or not be available in other Windows
installations. These directions are generic for all COM devices in Windows.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the reply. Of course we all understand that bug fixing is a priority.
You guys are doing a great job and make a great product.

I have been giving this some thought, and this is my suggestion to make it easiest
to implement:

1) As first priority, an "import settings" menu as a counterpart to the export function
you recently implemented. This will at least allow a work around that will save a lot
of time and prevent errors.

2) As a second priority, I suggest a small Windows or (better) Java program that has
"radio buttons" that allow the user to switch between settings. This way, a virtually
unlimited number of settings files can be exported and imported from the user's hard
drive, keeping the RemoteRig box clean of additional data. This program would basically
access the import function that is requested above. Being a small, independent program,
the user does not have to bother calling-up a browser to access the settings. The user
should be able to label these buttons with which system he wishes to load. After the
reboot, he will be able to use the other remote system. The number of buttons (profiles)
is in this case is probably not relevant, but I would think at least 4-5 for heavy users,
probably more in the future as the RemoteRig installed base further expands and users wish
to trade profiles. This program would accelerate the concept of trading and therefore
drive further RemoteRig sales and installations.

If you have any further questions, just let me know.

Thanks & 73,

Note that Difona now is offering the RC-480KIT for 359 Euros from DL, including V.A.T.:

Right, Simon, but April was a long time ago. We need to remind everyone
that we need this feature.

It will also help drive more sales of their products, since users can then easily
access more than one remote system. It is therefore financially interesting to
the RemoteRig team have this feature added.

Hi Guy,

Yes, I have also managed to have both working at the same time, but
that is not the way it is supposed to work. I assume that this "feature"
may be fixed in a future firmware release or of the PC Client.

Better to do it right! ;-)

Hi Guy,

I am not sure what you mean, the question was only the best
way to switch between the remote head and PC Client. There
is no other software involved, and the network is not an issue.

Just go into the box (control side) and go to "Radio Settings". Then
make sure that "Auto connect" is set to no.

That's all there is to it, except making sure that your remote head is off.

I have played around and been able to get control using the PC Client,
even when the head was connected, but I would not recommend this.

Hey guys,

Cool ideas, but I would be happy just to be able to import the
config files at this point ;-)

Just make sure that you leave your head turned off when you leave
and the RRC setting "auto connect" to "no", and you will be fine.

Mike and the guys have done a great job enhancing the RemoteRig platform.

There is one feature that I would really like to see: being able to import the
settings file that the box now produces when you export the settings. In
addition, it would be great to be able to manage multiple profiles for settings,
in order to be able to quickly switch between different server RRC's.

Our group is in the process of deploying at least one radio side with multiple
users. This would make it possible to easily add these users. Since some of
us will use more than one installation, adding profiles would improve this even
further. If we could at least get an import function soon, it would be a great help.

It depends upon which codec you choose to use, but those
speeds are well higher than the required speed. The issue is
definitely not with the speed of the network.

I use the following:
http://www.option.com/en/products/products/mobile-broadband-routers/x1/

There are routers with batteries or SIM card slots, but I prefer to be flexible
and I need power where I am, anyway.

I am also building WLAN links. I highly recommend the following solution:
http://www.ubnt.com/bullet

I use the 5 GHz version directly screwed onto a 22 DB patch panel. The cost
is low and performance is excellent. This solution would bridge a 50 KM link
if line-of-sight.

Hi Terry,

Like I mentioned to you on the phone last week, the carriers do not like VoIP and tend to block it.
If you are using SIP port 5060, you should try something else, otherwise they may have some
other way to detect this on a different port, as they do here in Germany.

I gave-up trying to use 3G. Even with a solid and fast connection, I experienced the same issue
you do. I use a 3G router with an ethernet jack.

Glad to hear that it works!

Due to deregulation, calling the USA is a local call and costs me nothing.
Skype calls are free, anyway.

Drop me a mail directly to coordinate, we don't need to make everyone
read everything ;-)  My mail is dj0qn (at) darc.de or Skype is mitchwo.

Note that I will be out of town starting tomorrow through next Wednesday,
so better today or from Wednesday evening my time again. I will have
Skype in my hotel rooms, but no idea when I will have time.

It really doesn't matter, as long as there is nothing else in your network with that port
in use. Just use 8000 or perhaps something less easy to guess.

You can find a list of assigned port numbers at http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers
but most of these are not relevant and you can use them anyway.

The DOS command "netstat -a" will show you a list of ports currently in use by your PC.

Bottom line: pick something strange and the probability of a conflict is nill.

My offer to talk you through this by phone or Skype stands.
