I have a similar issue with my FT-1000 MP MKV.

If you have your processor on try turning it off.  Solved my problem.

Probably there is an adjustment (to the audio supplied to the rig) that can be made to settings that I have been too lazy to investigate.  It works doesn't it?...

Problem was my laptop had the laptop speaker selected as default rather than the Microbit speaker.  Made the change and all is well.  I still have to update my software at work which should be OK now that I figured out what was wrong at home.

Also updated 1258's to 2.72 prior to updating PC Micro.  They seem to be working fine at least on receive.  While I was at it, seeing as DYNDNS decided that I would have to update my free account every 30 days to keep it active, I switched to the remoterig ddns service.

The volume control had been working before when I was running version 1.5.x something.  I am testing in the shack at this time.

I am running a Yaesu FT-1000MP MARK-V and although I have only been using my PC Micro to receive audio at work while controlling the home station through LogMeIn it has all been working fine until the upgrade.  All settings appear to be the same as they were before the upgrade.  I am using the dongle connection for my audio and I noticed that although I cannot change the volume with the Micro volume control I am able to do so with the volume control on my laptop.  I have never been able to get the audio to run through the laptop to use that for my audio and I use a little battery powered speaker to kick up the volume out of the dongle when a bit extra is called for.

I had a problem with the volume control not working in the past after an upgrade but the solution I used then no longer works.

PC Client works fine on home network with no buffer issues.  Time to start lobbying for a new work computer.   ::)

Thanks Roland.

I sort of thought it was my crappy work computer.  I work in a call center and when there are no calls I am free to surf, read, play, whatever...  I LOVE this job!  If it only paid a bit better it would be perfect.  I work a couple of evening shifts in addition to my day shifts and call volume is usually pretty light then.  Time for play!

It is an older computer with only 3 GB addressable RAM and I have to keep several applications open at all times.  I have enough problems with delays and hang ups on those apps so it was no surprise to see the PC Client being affected.

Actually the audio seemed to be coming in OK even with the buffer full of bars.  I have had it cutting out on me on other occasions however.

They have been talking about replacing this computer for the past 2 years so it is just a matter of time until I see a new machine.  I am NOT holding my breath waiting for that day to arrive.

Glad to know the bar colors have no bearing on anything.

General discussion / Sound Buffer question
« on: 2012-06-26, 05:13:59 »

I am testing my RRC Client at work and it quite often fills the sound buffer indicator bar completely with Red bars.  I saw that a filled indicator indicates that the speaker is not processing the incoming data quickly enough.  What would be the cure for that?

Could this just be a symptom of an overloaded and crappy computer system?  At work we run XP Professional SP3.  I have to run multiple applications on this computer and they usually have some lag time and hang ups.

I have to test this out at home on my network and see how it responds to a more robust system.  Just getting back to setting up again and had a lot of glitches along the way.  Once I have this worked out I will have to update the MKII boxes to the latest and greatest.

Also, I see Green and Blue Bars in the Indicator when it is not full of red bars.  I know that as long as it doesn't go to zero I am fine but what is the signifigance of the different colors?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Never mind.  I forgot I have to use option ONE, CHAR by CHAR with my FT1000 MP MKV.   I had picked the Yaesu option.   Volume control works fine now.   :-[

Have to call it a night as I have to be in to work very early tomorrow.   More testing to come tomorrow night.  I have a lot of catching up to do with the new features and options.

I haven't tried my setup for quite some time.  Before upgrading the RRC Client to the latest version I upgraded the MKII units to the latest version.

Prior to actually upgrading the Client I checked the MKII units which were working and then checked the Client which works but the volume slider does not adjust the audio level.  I upgraded the Client and still no audio adjustment.  I should have tested the Client before upgrading the MK II units.

I haven't tested transmitting yet as I first need to resolve the receive audio issue.

I saw that the latest version for Client now works with more control programs than HRD and I am hoping I will be able to control my station using Writelog.  Probably won't work but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The last time I tested my system the audio adjustment had been working properly.  I probably overlooked something.  Any thoughts on a quick solution or do I need to go read the latest version of the user manual.

I also thought all my connection problems were due to blocking at Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.  This was trying with the 1258 connected to my laptop and also when using the PC Client.  It's not them.  It is a setup problem on your end.

I don't know about the method you are using by switching from the laptop to the 1258.  As pointed out the 1258 would not be recognized due to the different MAC address.

I never got the 1258 to work at a hotspot and switched to the PC Client as it required carrying a lot less stuff around.  I went through a lot of aggravation before realizing that I had both Port Forwarding and DMZ active on my router.  Using one or the other solved my problem as I mentioned on another of your posts.  I'm sure it would work now.

It sounds to me like you may be trying to use ICS and Bridging at the same time. It has to be one or the other.  You must disable ICS if you want to use a bridge.  I don't think you can eliminate the laptop for logging in to a free wi-fi hotspot.

I am running a rather unconvential setup now.  I use the PC Client with my laptop to connect to the 1258 Radio unit for my audio connections and I use LogMeIn to connect to my Shack computer where I have a choice of running DX Lab, Writelog, and HRD.  I don't like HRD although I really like the front panel look for rig control.  I prefer to use FSK for RTTY and I have yet to discover a way to do that with HRD.

The hookup for PC Client also makes it easy for me to quickly connect from my work PC.  Just plug it in fire up the software and go.  They won't let me connect my laptop to the network at my office.

I do have the ability to use HRD over the Internet but then I have no access to the other two programs. I don't have a way to remotely switch serial ports.

Good luck working out all the bugs.

DynDNS is how it knows.  If you have tried putting the Radio unit in the DMZ at any time and then went to port forwarding be sure you cancelled the DMZ setting.  It won't work with both of them active.  Are you able to see the webpage for the Radio unit over the Internet?  If not you may have to change port 80 to something else like 8080 or 800.

I saw a post regarding setting up DynDNS on your router versus on the Radio Unit.  I got the impression that this caused a problem and should only be set up on one or the other.  Setting on the radio unit allows you to specify a time frame for how often you want the IP tested to be sure it hasn't changed.  If you haven't already installed the utility for automatically updating the IP which is available on the DynDNS site you need to do that.  You only need it at the shack end.  If you have it at your control end and open it up to check it out you will immediately change the IP to whatever it is at the site you are logged into.  Not a good thing.  Don't ask how I know...

Good luck and 73 de Walt, W6SA

I have been searching the site for more detailed information regarding the new capabilities of versions 2.40 & 2.41.  I have been unable to find any details explaining hookup and operation for the new features.

Is there something I am overlooking or could you post information to assist in hooking up and taking advantage of the new features offered?

You will need both.  The CAT5 cables will allow the units to connect to each other once they are configured.  The USB cable will be switched from one unit to the other as you set them up using the Setup Manager utility.

You could actually just connect one unit at a time to the router and the USB connection for setup purposes but if you have then both on the router you can save some time when testing your results.  They will eventually both need to be on the router for in house testing.

Remember not to use your DNS address while on your home network.  You will need to use the IP of the Radio unit, which should not use DHCP, to connect from the Control Unit.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

General discussion / Background noise on mike audio.
« on: 2011-06-13, 00:15:27 »
It's always something!

I finally got my PC Client issues squared away and audio now goes both ways using the dongle as my connection for the mike and headphones.  I can't seem to get the audio in my laptop to work for the mike or headset.  Got to be a setting somewhere for that.  Just haven't found it so far.

I am still testing things out here to be sure I am putting a good signal on the air so I have been monitoring the rig audio with another set of headphones at the rig.  I have a constant background noise which begins the instant I key the PTT on the dongle.  If I have my processor on it just about breaks into oscillation it is so loud.  Just about drowns out my mike audio.  Without the processor on I can hear my mike audio clearly above the background although I think I can still detect it below my modulation.

It may be a matter of balancing adjustments in the RemoteRig setup with the audio setup in the laptop.  I have cranked the audio for the mike all the way down to nothing and the noise follows the volume setting until it disappears along with the audio.

I have tested with the rig going into a dummy load and with it going to the antenna.  There is no difference so I don't believe it has anything to do with RF.

I run the same test with my 1258 system and the noise is also there but not as loud.  If I turn on the processor it gets up to the level that the PC Client produces when used without the processor on.

Basically I need to eliminate this background noise from the system and preferably to the point where I can use my processor on the rig otherwise my audio is not as strong as I would prefer it to be.  With only 200 watts into an R7 vertical mounted 5 feet above ground I need all the boost I can get when fighting it out in a pile up.

The rig is a Yaesu FT-1000MP MKV.  I have a line isolator at the antenna and another just outside the shack which is connected to my 10 foot ground rod.  I have split ferrites all over the wiring in the shack.  I will try adding some to the latest wiring additions but it doesn't seem to be an RF issue.

If I could figure out a way to record the noise I would attach a file for suggestions.   I am using the same microphones I normally would use with my rig.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I realize this is difficult without hearing the background noise.

Delay / Not Responding issue resolved.  Nothing a complete rebuild of the laptop couldn't fix.  In trying to troubleshoot by removing Windows Updates I managed to trash the Registry and none of my backup images were current enough to salvage it.

Went back to square one and started from scratch with an image taken 2 weeks after first setting up the laptop.  All is well.

I made it a point to only apply some of the updates and then reimage after checking to be sure the Client still worked.  It was slow but all the patches went on and the app still works.

Laptop is almost setup back to where I want it.  Next thing is a test from a remote wifi hotspot.  I see no reason why it should not work.

I guess I will never know what caused the problem but the important thing is it is no longer an issue.

This just pertains to my connectivity from a wifi hotspot to my webpage on the 1258 at home.

Bottom line is to make sure you have not set up a route in the HOSTS file.  I did at one point and it is looked at before any attempt to resolve the DNS address.  The changed Port was not specified so it could not resolve no matter how many times I entered it in the address window of my browser using the Port number.

Cleared out the HOSTS file routing and no problem connecting to my webpage.

That still leaves me with another problem.  I can no longer connect at home as I get a long delay between the Splash Screen and the Client Screen.  I can access the Settings page OK but clicking on the link for Info.txt or trying to make a link freezes the application.  The link shows it is Initializing and eventually says it is connecting to my IP address locally.  Eventually it Times Out.  I can get receive audio but the screen and app are completely frozen.  I have to kill it in Task Manager.

This started happening a couple weeks ago and would sometimes allow a connection.  I got rid of the Not Responding message by using Vista Compatability but still freezes up.  I'm thinking perhaps it was a Windows Update that I will need to remove that is causing the issue.  I've exhausted all other ideas.  I have Firewall and AntiVirus disabled .
