General discussion / Re: WiFi nodes
« on: 2019-02-16, 22:30:26 »
Hi Mitch, et al

I confirmed with my resort website tech support that they see no reason why the RemoteRig won’t connect to their network. Of course, they are unfamiliar with the RemoteRig but they had me connect (successfully) with my available devices (iPad, iPhone, Samsung phone, tablets and my Windows 10 pc via their network. As stated before, I see the resort WiFi nodes in Microbit ... but it never connects.

I thought I’d try to connect the Microbit to the windows 10 pc, enabled as a hotspot. I confirmed the hotspot worked by connecting it to my cell phone and iPad. But, I don’t see the windows 10 pc hotspot on the WiFi list within Microbit. It shouldn’t be a signal strength issue as the two devices are only a meter apart.

Any other ideas/tests I can try?

I wouldn’t be expending all the energy, except we will be at this resort for several months, and their bandwidth is far superior to my usual connection method.

Thanks Mitch. I am aware of those sites, but this network has no secondary T&C screen. I’ll chat with the webmaster of the site.

General discussion / WiFi nodes
« on: 2019-02-14, 20:34:56 »
I successfully use a Verizon JetPack for WiFi connections while traveling. Today I attempted to connect to a Wifi network in a resort. The site is password protected ... I scanned for nodes, found the one desired and entered the password in the Microbit ap ... all exactly as I do with the JetPack. However, I can’t get the 1258 to connect. The signal strength of the node is -65 ... the JetPack is stronger, about -35. Thoughts? Perhaps the issue is on the resort end but thought I would begin by asking here.

Resolved ... part of the chassis ground bus had became dislodged. Reconnecting all commons removed the feedback.
Thanks for the help

General discussion / Audio feedback in K3/0 speaker
« on: 2018-11-06, 18:32:44 »
I have recently reconfigured my remote station and seem to have made a minor issue from the past, more prevalent now. When transmitting, I can hear my transmit audio through the K3 speaker slightly delayed. The audio sounds like my SSB signal, without a BFO. Severity is dependent on power levels. At 100 watts, it is loud enough to be quite annoying. Obviously, I’m getting RF into the RRC box or cabling.

All components in the remote box ... radios, amplifiers, hubs, computer, RRC, etc have chassis grounds individually run to a single point of contact (ground rod for electrical service panel).

Given the symptoms, any idea where I should begin my troubleshooting? I suspect ferrite beads are in my future, but would like a sense of where to begin.

Thanks

More info: receive audio is heard at the station (RF) end of link  ... nothing from the K3/0 through speaker or headsets.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / No receive audio

I have my two RRC's and the K3/K30 mini communicating over the Internet using cellular data. Rig control works fine and I can see the s-meter fluctuating at the remote site, but there is no receive audio. Tried the obvious like the K3/0  rf and af gain, but still no audio. Any ideas from the learned masses?

General discussion / Boot sequence for remote
« on: 2016-12-28, 19:10:34 »
I am successfully using a K3/0 Mini plus the K3, KAT & KPA 500's via the RRC boxes. I also have a PC connected via Team Viewer which talks to the configuration via serial ports. I'm connecting an IP power strip, and curious as to the best boot sequence to program so everything is 'awake' when hardware and software are trying to communicate. I'm thinking the following order, but would welcome suggestions:
1. Web router/hub
2. RRC at remote site
3. PC
4. 12VDC bus that powers radio and radio accessories

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Multilevel passwords for WiFi
« on: 2016-03-21, 18:52:14 »
I'm in Mexico and trying to access my home station in Washington state. The ISP here requires two entries to sign in. I can see the local wifi on the RRC, but the RRC firmware allows only has one field for the password.  The wifi network asks for a room number and a last name (2 separate items in two different fields).

Any ideas how I might get around this login issue?

General discussion forum / Acceptable jitter
« on: 2016-02-17, 00:03:10 »
I have identified a potential host QTH for my remote with great bandwidth, but the jitter is 13ms. Jitter on my current remote site is 1ms and I've been successful with running CW on the RRC with the default jitter settings. As there are no antennas or power at the new site, its difficult to test the significance of 13ms jitter on my operations, and if the 13ms of jitter can be mitigated by RRC settings.

How bad does line jitter need to be before causing issues on CW? I understand there may be other variables, but I am trying to determine some rule of thumb about levels of jitter found to be problematic for users. The archives have lots of info on addressing jitter, but few reports of the measured jitter users are trying to mitigate.
