General discussion / DNS Error Code
« on: 2011-05-03, 16:57:17 »
Hi All:

I just took another look at my Radio RRC's settings, to see if there's anything I missed and I see that I have A DNS Error Code 4.
Anyone have an idea what this means? Also, should I have my PING Watchdog set to off or doesn't matter?
I'm kind of thinking everything is as it should be because, I wouldn't be able to access my Radio RRC's web page through my dyndns host other wise.
I also have my remote site's router set to port forward UDP CMD, UDP Audio and SIP ports to the Radio RRC's internal assigned IP which is 192.168.1.4.
I also have this IP address reserved for my Radio RRC. I also have the Extern IPs blank.
The only thing left is to take the Control RRC out to the QTH, hook it up on the LAN out there to see if everything works, as it did here in my apartment.
If everything does work out there, I can only sermize that my ISP's have something to do with it.
I do use 2 different providers and that may play a roll. I think it worked before due to the fact that they just didn't notice the increase in traffic between they're domains and now they've blocked unless I pay! LOL
Sounds silly I know but here in Canada, ISP's will block to prevent they're competitors.

General discussion / Re_Remote Rig Problems
« on: 2011-05-02, 19:50:10 »
Hi Mike:

I have my ports at the RRC's QTH setup to forward to the internal assigned ip of the Radio RRC. don't think this was the problem, unless the QTH's Router might have some problems.  Will have to check next weekend. I'd like to use DMZ but not sure how to set it up on my type of router.
Didn't see an option only port forwarding or port triggering and elected to go with port forwarding instead.
I have now removed both the extern ips, this is right? I also have the Control RRC SIP contact pointing to the dyndns host.  I'm still not getting anything except when I got rid of the extern ips, my control RRC emitted some sort of alert.

General discussion / Remote rig problems continued
« on: 2011-05-02, 17:17:52 »
Hi All:

After taking my remote down for reset and successfully testing it in my apartment and got it working fine, I set it up again this weekend.
Of course, I'm not getting any functionality what so ever but I can access the Radio RRC's web page perfectly through my dyndns assigned host.
I have the remote router set to port forward UDP audio and cmd along with sip and so on but still nothing.
I also have my router here in my apartment configured to allow the same but still nothing.
Both extern IPs match the remote site's ISP assigned IP, so no problem there.
Again, when both units were here in my apartment, they worked perfectly! LOL
I didn't change anything, just setup port forwarding and the external IPs.

Totally lost: Help!

General discussion forum / Resetting my remote
« on: 2011-04-04, 14:42:12 »
Hi All:

I had to take down my HF remote for resetting purposes.
I thought this would be a good time to update the firmware as well.
I have the 2 devices on my lan and Yaesu FT-450 connected to the Radio RRC but the 2 devices can't talk to each other.
I have the ports opened up on my router and have the following IPs.
Control RRC, 192.168.2.16, Radio RRC, 192.168.2.13.
The external IPS are my ISP's assigned Ip of 142.xxx.xxx.xx.
On the Radio RRC, I have my Dyn DNS info configured as well and can reach the RRC by typing in my DYN DNS host address.
I have my serial set to Yaesu but I think I'm missing just a couple of more little things and can't think of them.
Some help would be appreciated.

General discussion / Reset Remote
« on: 2011-04-04, 03:20:51 »
Hi All:

Well, had to take down my remote station to reset and in order to do that had to cart the works back to my apartment.
Figured it would be a gd time to up date as well.
Now that I got the 2 devices on my LAN, FT-450 connected to the Radio RRC, can't seem to get the 2 units to talk to each other.
Perhaps I require the serial settings and IP settings. Should have written everything down but didn't and I'm having to start all over. UG.

General discussion forum / Password Recovery?
« on: 2011-02-24, 14:01:24 »
Hi all:

Is there a way to recover a password with out resetting?
I set up a user and password on my Radio RRC but haven't  used it in a while.
I tried logging in the other day and the password I used didn't work.
Of course, stupid me, didn't jot it down and I varied from my normal password scheme.
I guess a total reset wouldn't be a total problem, just a bit of a pain though.

Hi all:

Well I must say this Remote setup is a God Sent. (HIHIHI) I even got my IW1IW Wakeup FT utility to power on and off the rig through the Remote!
Don't know how it does but it works. I guess both HRD and the Wakeup FT utility are fooled into  thinking they're connecting to a
Yaesu when they're actually connected to the Control RRC and the Control RRC sending the proper commands to the Radio RRC.
But anyway it works and I love it, especially the remote CW! (HIHI) Not vary gd yet but practicing,
TNX fur ur patients! (HIHI)
Anyway my question: is there anyway to reverse the paddle and speaker jacks with out physically flipping them, say in the settings?
I'd like the speaker jack on the rear and my paddles jack on the front. Not a big deal but it might be easier for speaker wire.
Also if you have only one set of paddles, like I do, it would be easier to unplug your paddles for transport,
instead of having to pull the unit out of your station to disconnect the paddles.

General discussion forum / Choppy Audio
« on: 2010-12-21, 18:59:25 »
Hi All:

Well it seems I have to indeed turn down my rig's Side Tone! LOL
I'll do that when I get back from my Holiday in Alberta.
I won't be taking my Control RRC with me because I'm using a KW PS-53 power supply to power it! LOL
It will be too much to pack and we already have weight restrictions! LOL Gifts ya know?
But: I am wondering what settings in both the Radio RRC and Control RRC do I play around with to git rid of choppy received audio?
I did check into a local HF net this morning and received my usual excellent audio report, plus me adding the / Remote at the end of my call.
It's probably do to the internet traffic at both ends which brought on the choppy audio the last hour or so.
So incase I don't post until I get back, , Seasons greetings to all and a happy and prosperous 2011.

General discussion forum / Up and Running
« on: 2010-12-20, 23:05:06 »
Hi All:

I want to thank Mikael and those who assisted me with getting up and running.
Want to thank you for your patients as well.
Now that I'm up and running, I to am getting that extra . and - in my CW.
I've got my rig configured for straight key operation, as per the instructions in my owners manual (Yaesu FT-450) but I don't think that's responsible.
In the Control RRC Keyer Settings, I have the LF and Key delays set to my ping time of 130MS.
My weight is 30. Other than that, I don't know what else to change.
Could it be I'm getting an echo back from the rig?
I shouldn't be because my rig's keyre is set to off which you do for straight key.

General discussion forum / Back to square 1 and stomped
« on: 2010-12-19, 20:27:41 »
Hi All:

Well I added the Radio RRC portion of my remote rig to my HF station this weekend and after everything worked in a test environment on my LAN
in my apartment, I get absolutely nothing now that the units are separated. I can't even connect with HRD for rig control.
I'm wondering if my IP settings have to do with it but as for the HRD, don't know.
My router at the shack site is set to DMZ the Radio RRC.
This should open up the ports to that device but no go.
There are 2 IP settings for each unit and I'm really not sure on what ones to use.
The 1ST ones, titled just IP, do they contain the internal LAN IP, beginning with 192?
While the external IPs contain the ISP assigned IP, in my case beginning with 173 or do I put the actual dyndns assigned domain name in there?
Really stuck:

General discussion forum / Another feature suggestion
« on: 2010-12-16, 16:35:36 »
Good Day All:

As a feature suggestion, I'd like to see a way of dropping the need for Ham Radio Deluxe for those of us who don't use the supported rigs with the
separation heads.  I think this could be done by adding a Java based web radio control interface to the Control RRC's web server.
This interface could be vary similar to the Global Tuners online receiver controlling interface: http://www.globaltuners.com
This would also open up the rig remotes to other operating systems, IE: Mac and Linux.
We wouldn't be dependent on the serial cable connection from the PC to the Control RRC, but it would still be connected to your LAN.
You could just connect to the web server like you normally do, wirelessly or wired Ethernet but have the rig control interface built in.
Right now, Ham Radio Deluxe is only available on windows and even the win 7 machines are having probs with it.
I'm a Mac and windows XP/PRO/Home Addition user and have no problems with the global tuners interface.
My screen readers have no issues either However, they do with Ham Radio Deluxe.
I'm only limited to the rig control portion of HRD and all the sub programs are useless to a blind user.

Just a suggestion:

General discussion forum / Appreciated Help
« on: 2010-12-14, 15:31:27 »
Hi Mikael:

I want to say thanks for all your assistance the past few days with getting my Remote Rig 1258MkII straightened out.
All your tips really worked and I can't wait to drop them into my HF station this weekend.
I too have discovered an extra dit in my CW now and then but I think it just might be my paddles, it went away when I slowed down.
It might also be where everything is only in the next room and I'm receiving the echo of the reconstruction.
In order to configure my Yaesu FT-450 for straight key operation, you just turn off the keyer.
How ever, I had to turn on CW Break In in HRD to key the rig. That was strange, but it worked.
So I may have to make some more CW menu adjustments. That's not a big deal because I now have a fully capable HF remote station, including
CW and if I'm  a little careful with my paddles, the CW QSO should be fine. (HIHIHI)

« on: 2010-12-13, 00:10:28 »
Good evening all:

Well hopefully my next posting will enlighten me like my previous post! LOL
I managed to get my audio to and from the rig, control the rig with HRD and key the rig's PTT with my desk mic connected to the Control RRC.
With my wife speaking in the mic, I heard her through my headphones, connected to the rig's headphones jack with the monitor activated.  (Ossim)
Now if I could get the CW operation working. I don't know where to go from here.
I have set my rig up for straight key operation but nothing's happening when I activate my paddles, just the side tone in the control RRC.
Any advice?

Thanks all & 73:

Michael

P S
Had to use the forced -3 parameter in the control RRC's serial settings.
Also, rig is Yaesu FT-450

I'm using the Yaesu FT-450 which is Yaesu 2K type in the RRC manual. As for comm port settings, it uses 4.

Thanks:
Michael
Which Radio are you using?

Hi all:

I'm absolutely stuck.
I've got all my equipment setup here in my apartment for a dry run test and I can't get any thing with regards to audio out of my Control RRC unit.
Here's what I have done.

1. Radio RRC Unit:
Proper power supplied. External speaker jack on rig connected to the radio RRC speaker jack.
Pad jack on the radio rrc connected to rig's Keying jack.
Keying jack configured to use straight key operation as per instructions.
Radio RRC's RJ-45, strapped for my Rig's Mic jack as per instructions, connected to rig's mic jack with supplied cable.
Radio RRC connected to rig's RS-232 jack with proper 9 pin serial cable.
Radio RRC connected to LAN. Radio RRC configured to talk to my DYN DNS host.
I can browse the web server and make changes. So that's working.

2. Control RRC:
Proper power supplied. PC connected to Control RRC by USB to serial Adapter.
CW paddles connected to Control RRC's Pad jack. Headphones connected to Control RRC's speaker jack (
I can hear the unit's hiss and CW side tone.
Desk mic connected to the Control RRC's RJ-45 jack, again strapped for my rig's mic as per instructions.
Control RRC connected to my LAN. I can also browse the web server and make changes.
So Control RRC appears to be working.

I can't connect with HRD and I'm not hearing any audio what so ever in my headphones from the rig or can't activate the rig's PTT with my mic through the Control RRC.
In effect, I don't think my 2 units are communicating with each other.
I do have my Control RRC's Ip configured to talk to my DYN DNS host but perhaps its supposed to talk to the Radio RRC through another  IP address
I also have my ports opened up for the proper protocols.

thanks:

Michael
