Interesting.  I was under the impression that these cables came from HRO and that they sourced them from Remoterig.  I will try and see where they obtained the cables from.  My apologies if you took this as a fault of Remoterig.  I was just trying to alert the group of a possible problem.

The problem seems to be that the diagrams from Remoterig show pins 3&4 as the mike audio leads.  This in itself is not an error on the part of Remoterig.  The problem is when someone uses a standard CAT5/6 cable to make the cable for the AUX/MIC jack.  When one of the CAT5/6 cable connectors are cut off and the cable is used, pins 3&4 end up being a split pair.  Now this does not always cause a problem, but did with the Heil headset.

Does Remoterig have a cable available that is wired the proper way?

The E850511 cable used to connect the RRC1258 AUX/MIC connector to the Elecraft MIKE MONO & PTT IN connectors can cause microphone digital noise.  We found this a problem when using a Heil headset on a K3/0 setup.  We have two of the  E850511 that are wired the same way.

The problem is caused by a "split pair" in the E850511 cable.  Pins 3&4 of the CAT5 cable that is used to make the E850511 is not a pair of twisted wires.  (See attached photos)  This is how the stock cable is made:

RJ45 pin      Nomenclature
3-GREEN/WHITE   MIC
4-BLUE         MIC GROUND
5-BLUE/WHITE      PTT
6-GREEN      PTT GROUND

In order to keep the MIC leads on the same twisted pair, this is how I rewired the RJ45 on the cable:

RJ45 pin      Nomenclature
3-BLUE         MIC
4-BLUE/WHITE      MIC GROUND
5-GREEN      PTT
6-GREEN/WHITE   PTT GROUND

I then rewired the 1/8" plug and the phono jack accordingly.  This solved the digital noise problem on the microphone audio.  Others that have a noise problem might try this fix.

It appears that if a stock CAT5 or CAT6 is used to make a cable for any other radio that uses the RRC1258 AUX/MIC connector for audio, this problem may happen.  I opted to keep the strapping in the RRC1258 standard for clarity.

Ok, fine, but why not 2.87, which is the latest?

That was a typo, I meant to type 2.87

I like the Nano app, but I am limited to receive only because I am not able to tune the antenna.  We badly need the ability to activate the antenna tuner.

General / KENWOOD NANO 1.3.10 UPDATE
« on: 2016-01-26, 16:12:01 »
I saw on my phone that I received a RemoteRig update for the Nano app.  Now when I try to connect to the remote using the Nano app I get the BUSY indication on the app but it disconnects the connection that is in progress.

I must have forgotten to Apply the out0 option.  It is working fine now.

I'm working on my third RRC, this one is an Elecraft K-3.

I'm accessing the K-3 using my Elecraft Nano App on my Android phone.  The K-3 will not turn on when I connect to it over my local LAN IP address.  If I first turn on the K-3, I can connect to it and everything seems to work fine.  When I disconnect the K-3 powers off.  If I try to reconnect the K-3 will not power up, but the Nano app shows that I am connected.

Any ideas?  The 1258 RRC is Version 7, HW 8,Software 2.87, and the K-3 software is up to date.

My Elecraft App is working on my smartphone License ID 8b64, but my Nextbook tablet app license ID 1885 stopped working.  It is reporting the "App Trial Period has expired".  Can you please fix this?

My Kenwood App is working fine on both devices.

I'm looking at page 208 of the User Manual Rev A34.  I do not see a listing for the value of Radio Setting "COM0 Program mode 3 char timeout".

What should this field be set to?  I have software version 2.87 in my RRC.

I'm working on an Elecraft K3 remote setup.  I was looking at the two factory cables for the microphones connections and they both have the RJ45 pin 7 wired to the mike jack pin 5.  The drawings in the USER MANUAL do not show this connection.  Pin 5 of the K3 is used by the button on the microphone and is a programmable feature (OFF or ON).  Is this feature supported by the 1258?

Hello,

I purchased a new Andriod smartphone today and loaded the Kenwood and Elecraft Nano Apps.  The Kenwood is working fine, but how do I transfer the license to the new phone?  Can I keep the app on both my tablet and phone?

Are you using a mike that you know worked in the past with the 480 and the 1258?
