General / Re: Any problem using the RRC-Nano and WiFi?
« on: 2015-02-07, 21:33:45 »
I am looking for a tablet to put this Application on and found a Nextbook 7 Quad-Core Processor 16GB with Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) OS on it.  The tablet is on sale for $59.95US right now at Walmart.  Can you tell me if the Nano App will run on Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) OS?  I would hate to buy the tablet and find out it is not compatible.

If it is, this would be an inexpensive way for people run Nano on WiFi.

Thanks, Joe, K1ike

Any OS version that needs to be on the device?  This is an older phone.

I'm also thinking of buying a tablet with Android OS, as my plan is to use this only with WiFi.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / CAT Checklist
« on: 2015-01-25, 16:19:13 »
I understand that there is a CAT checklist available.  I'd like to get a copy of it, if possible, to configure my IC-706MKIIG for either RRC-Micro or RRC-Nano operation.

I would also like to have access to one of the RS-232 ports at the Radio end to connect a computer to.  I did this with a TS-480SAT remote in the past, but that radio was not CAT.

Thanks, Joe, K1ike

General / Any problem using the RRC-Nano and WiFi?

Can a Smartphone be used that does not have an active subscription to a cell carrier?  I have access to an older one and wanted to use it to play with RRC-Nano, but don't want to activate cell service.  I wanted to use it only on my WiFi.

Do you see any problem doing it this way?

I've set up our 2nd RemoteRig station this week using the RRC-1258MkIIs and an Icom IC-706MK2G.  Everything is working well, except for one problem.  If we leave the system on for several hours with no interaction with the control head, the control head disconnects and will not reconnect to the radio unit.  The radio unit has to be power cycled in order to get the system working again.

Any ideas?

General discussion / Re: Pumping Audio
« on: 2014-07-07, 01:01:38 »
That fixed the pumping.  One other strange thing happens.  I don't get any audio until I use the ARCP-480 software and touch the AF GAIN slider on the ARCP-480 software.  The audio then comes on and it works fine.  I am using COM2 and 9600 baud.  I'll set it to 4800 baud as you suggested in another thread.

Thanks, Joe

I had the MicroPC working, but now I have a problem with pumping audio.  I changed the packet size to 40, but it still happens.  I am using this over my local LAN.

Any ideas?

I had gotten away from this project until now.  The TS-480SAT still makes a noise with the mike cable coming from the RemoteRig disconnected from the radio, so I am beginning to think the problem is with the TS-480SAT.  I'll have to wait until I get the radio head to the site and test just the radio without the RemoteRig equipment.  Right now, the TS-480 head is 1,000 miles away so it might be a while until I can test it.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Mitch,

I used COM2 for my setup, just because I had a cable with the proper gender connectors to do this.  I'm connected to a TS-480SAT.  Any difference between using COM2 or COM1?  COM2 seems to be working just fine.

Hello Again,

I just verified that the noise happens when the headset microphone is disconnected.  Actually, the noise gets much louder with the microphone unplugged from the dongle.  I unplugged the AC power from the laptop and the noise went away!

My friend had the dongle originally and I just have had the opportunity to test it locally.  The noise appears to be coming from the AC adapter for the laptop.  My friend had tried it on his desktop and had the same problem with noise.  I did replace the USB cable that connects to the dongle with a known good one and verified that the noise is still there.

So, in conclusion, the dongle appears to work just fine without the AC connected to the computer.  When the AC adapter is connected to the laptop AC hum is transmitted over the microphone input to the dongle.  I will install it on my desktop sometime today and verifiy that I am having the same problem using the desktop computer as my friend did.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for the reply.  The noise happens even when the headset microphone is unplugged from the dongle.  I will verify this again just to be sure.

I have just recently switched from LogMeIn to Teamviewer and I need to set TV up on my laptop that the dongle is plugged into.  I will get things ready.

I uninstalled the MicroPC software and reinstalled it. now it appears to be functioning well, but I still get the noise on transmit.  Moving the microphone slider on the MicroPC control panel varies the volume of the noise, so it appears to be originating from the MicroPC dongle side of the Internet connection.

When I use the RemoteRig 1258 control head to operate the station all is OK.  It looks like there is a problem with the MicroPC dongle.  This is the third computer that is acting like this.  I am unable to switch to the sound card in the computer, the sound card in the MicroPC stays active.

Would it be possible for someone to access my station with their dongle and see if the same condition exists?

It is happening with the other sound card too.  I unplugged the headset from the MicroPC dongle and I still have audio being transmitted.  It appears that the microphone in the laptop is always active.  This appears to be causing the noise that I am hearing (feedback).

With the headset unplugged from the dongle I can select Microphone (Microbit 1274A), Microphone (Realtek High Defini, or Line (Microbit 1274A) In all cases, the microphone in the laptop is active and I can hear my voice beibng transmitted over the air.  This is with no headset plugged into the dongle.

We looked at the setup of the computer (laptop) and found nothing that would cause an AGC effect.  The MicroPC dongle was moved to a desktop computer and we are still having the same noise problem.  As long as there is modulation it is fine, but the noise creeps back up when you are silent and the radio is keyed.

No ideas at this point.
