Yeasu FT 857
« on: 2012-01-16, 21:28:42 »
Is the FT 857 with the detachable head able to be used with remoterig in a similar fashion to the Kenwood radios,
or do you have to use the CAT connection.

Kind Regards

Until now it has not been possible, But we have put in lot of effort to solve it, and in next firmware version there will be support for FT-857 with remote control panel like the IC-706, TS480 etc.

I am really optimistic to know this as I own a Yaesu FT-857 and would love to see this radio supported. Let me know if any remote beta-testing is needed.

Wow good news for all 857 users and possibly a whole bunch of new users coming with this radio supportet with detached Display.

When it's out I will give my 897 a try as the wiring behind the attached face is or should be the same after a quick look to the
service manual.
(At least cable number HI)
Would be great for me to activate a sencond QTH for 6m/VHF/UHF.

Looking forward to the next fw release ;-)

The first firmware supporting FT-857 with separated control panel is released and can be downloaded from the firmware page. Im not used to work with the FT-857 myself, but I have made some QSOs today and I think it works very well. Sp pse try. Check the manual about how to interface it.

I have a club setup where several members control the same FT-857. Until now we have used HamRadioDeluxe and CAT control.

Can my FT-857 be controlled with a separated control panel from one RemoteRig and with CAT control (HRD) from another RemoteRig box or a microRRC at different times? That is a single RemoteRig at the radio end and several RemoteRigs/microRRC's at the control end.

Can RRC's with hardware modification for FT-857 be used with other radios after the modification? That is does the hardware modification spoil normal operation when later configured for other radios?

I also have a TS-2000x which is supposed to be controlled from RRC's with HRD and RRC's with RC-2000. My setup might end up with one radio RRC for FT-857 and one radio RRC for TS-2000x+RC-2000 both to be controlled from many control RRC+microRRCs and they should all be able to control both FT-857 and TS-2000x (at different times and with proper pads and profiles). One club member might want to work HF on FT-857 at the same time as another member works VUSHF with TS-2000. Thus a hardware modified control RRC should be able to control FT-857 and TS-2000.

I don't know, you can test it your self. If the FT-857 can be controlled via CAT even if the Control panel is removed it will work. TS-480 work without control panel but most rigs does not.

No it's just the speaker out via the TTL which is removed, but it's easy to modify it back to orginal, just replace the trace  and 0R resistor with a wire.

 just a bit off topic:

" As I have also a yaesu FT100, and see that now FT857 is supported, there will be a little chance for the 100 to be supported in future? "

tnx, Steve
