RRC with 3G private IP - any solution?
« on: 2013-02-05, 14:29:47 »
Hi

I know there were discussions before... Is there a way to use RRC if using 3G internet on the radio side -  all ports are blocked by ISP (behind NAT), so no public IP address and direct connection is not possible.

Any VPN, virtual HUB or similar workaround ...?

Robert,

I know a couple of people using VPN's to solve that problem. At least in Germany, that is the only way
to host a remote station on 3G or LTE.

One example of what they are using is http://www.portunity.de/

In most countries it's no difference between 3G/4G and other connections like DSL fiber etc. Are you sure it's not just the port 5060 which is blocked, that's more common.

Hi Mike,

The problem is not the ports, it is the IP number. You receive an internal IP number, because the
3G/4G providers here do not give you a public IP number. This creates a "double NAT" and makes
it impossible to host a system.

crazy

Then a VPN tunnel initiated from the 3G/4G side is probably the only solution

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately all prepaid 3G/4G internet networks in S5 have internal - private IP .. They are offering business contracts (private APN)  but this comes quite expensive (at least 3 SIM cards + fees for incoming traffic)

P.S.: Mike, please move the topics to RRC 12558 English (it belongs more to general topic there and not under Webswitch 1216H)

I understand that VPN tunnel might be a solution... but VPN tunnel connects two PCs or 2 routers and  using RRC pair I have to connect 2 LANs in order to establish RRC Control - RRC Radio connection (RRCs are usually connected to the router on both sides). I might be wrong as I am not the IT / network expert
