Cat control and CW-keying with K3/0
« on: 2016-03-13, 16:32:50 »
Hi,

I wonder if anyone has succeeded to have both CAT control and CW-keying working at the same time with the K3 twin setup

I am using Writelog and have not been able to to sort this out

My PC is connected to the USB Com port on the Control RRC for CAT control
I have tried to use COM3(Extra)  mode for Winkeyer, but Writelog immediately keys PTT when it starts.

This has been described before here
http://www.remoterig.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=1805.0

Is there any other way to get CAT and CW keying going at the same time and does the Winkeyer work with any other software?

The CAT and keying can be done completely separately, so there is no problem.

To use CAT, here is my checklist:

------------------------------

CAT Checklist for K3 Twin
----------------------------------
Note first that in a "Twin" configuration, COM2 is used to "tie" the two ends together and carries the CAT data. In order to access CAT, you need to get to COM2 without touching it. The easiest method is to duplicate COM2 over COM1 using a function in the RRC as follows:

- Change both RRC's COM1 to mode-7. Note that the baud rate does not have to be identical with COM2 to fit a lower bandwidth or software requirement.

- If using a "real" serial cable:
     - connect between the control RRC's COM1 and the PC, but note that the pinout is not the standard straight-through serial port. Use the pinout description in the RemoteRig manual, or just try a null-modem cable which usually works (may need a gender changer).
     - The  serial setting for COM1 "Use USB Com Port as COM1" must be set to NO

- If using USB:
     - make sure that first Microbit Setup Manager is installed first on the control PC to get the drivers.
     - Then change the serial settings for COM1 to change "Use USB Com Port as COM1" to YES
     - connect the USB cable between the RRC and computer and wait for the drivers to finish installing
     - go to the Windows Device Manager and look at which virtual serial port was assigned to COM1 and use that for your software, taking the correct baud rate into account.

Note also that you can pull CAT data in parallel off of the radio RRC to use a PC on that end, or to sync with a remote device (amplifier, SteppIR, etc.)
------------------------------

For CW, there are several ways, including using the Winkeyer emulation. I think there are a number of threads on here on that subject if you do a search,
otherwise let us know what you want to do and you will receive a qualified answer.

Yes Mitch, I have used your checklists for setting up the remotes and it was a great help  in the process :)

I have CAT controll OK via COM1, but I am not able to use the winkeyer function with writelog

I have searched the forum for different solutions on how to add PC-keying, but I am still looking for the answer

Could it be possible to use the KEY input on the K3/0 for PC-keying?
I believe this is for connecting a straight key?

Olaf,

Do you have yours configured as follows?
http://www.remoterig.com/forum/index.php?topic=2222.msg9784#msg9784

There are several ways to key, for example:
- Use paddle connected to PAD input of RRC
- If the software offers it, use "key by CAT" or similar
- Use the Winkeyer emulation of the RRC
- Some software allows you to use the rig's internal keyer
- Use an external keyer per the manual pages 94, 95 & 242
- etc.

Olaf,

I you are on Win 10 then there is a Writelog beta available which might fix USB Com ports issues. I have been authorized  by the maker of Writelog to forward details about it and where to find it. Just tell me if you want to test it.
Always include type of hard/software and version when asking for support.
