Failed to update FW
« on: 2010-11-19, 15:56:02 »
I have new units (stereo) that came with 2.25.  When I tried to update to 2.27 with the Setup Manager, it failed to program.  However, when I ran the update through the web interface, it appeared to work fine (both units).

Any reason to be concerned?

Both units failed to program via USB? Did you try another computer and/or USB port? Which Windows version did you use?
Always include type of hard/software and version when asking for support.

Hello Bob.
Yesterday i had the same problem with both units.

I resolved in this way:

1) I removed the SetUp Manager SW using the Windows Tools
2) I removed the RRC (Radio or Control) from the USB then i restart the PC
3) I reinstalled the Set Up Manager SW (latest version)
4) I Restart the PC
5) I attached the USB cable and the RRC
6) I update the firmware

After that all worked fine.
I think the Set Up Manager Software damaging itself after some "failed" FMW update. IMHO

Sorry for my poor English.

Yes, both units failed.  Both reported "connected".
I did not try other ports or computers.
Using XP SP2.

Since both now report v. 2.27, after update through web interface, I assume all is ok.

Thanks for your help, Franco.

Franco: It sounds very unlikely that a PC program should be able to damage itself just because of a communication failure  ;)

Bob: Win XP pre SP3 is known for having USB issues. I would recommended SP3.

Hello Jan.

Is not the first time that this happens. I'm a 47 old computer tecnician and i assisted to several situations like this.

I don't know why (and i'm sure the cause is not for a communication failure) but removing the Sw and reintslling it from scratch has resolved the problem (for me the most important thing).

Franco: As I am approx one year younger than you maybe I hadn't learned of that bizarre behaviour of Windows ;) But still, I would not express it like the Setup Manager damaging itself, rather then Windows or the installation of the program which screws up. For me being the poor programmer it is a significant difference since it would mean one thing less being my fault, haha!
