Problem with the virtual COM-Port
(1/1)
DL7AWO:
Hello,
I‘m using a Kenwood TS-480 with two RRC-1258 MkII-Boxes and the Webswitch 1216H.
The COM 1 and 2 are used for CAT and an Expert-PA, so that I want to control my rotor (Yaesu G-1000) with the adapter cable 1216S.
The rotor works fine with the microbit html-page but to control it with a programm (HRD for example), I want to install the virtual COM port in the Microbit Setup Manager (v1.31).
I know the manual (http://www.webswitch.se/wp/?page_id=509), but nevertheless I have several questions:
What IP Address do I have to insert? The Address given by the DNS server (*.ddns.webswitch.se)? Something else?
The OS is Win 7 and the TCP port (11182) is open in the router setup. Do I have to change something in the software firewall (Win firewall)?
When I insert a Serial Port, an IP Address and the TCP Port, I get the message that the Port was installed. When I press the refresh button, I get the message that the port is disconnected.
In the Windows device manager, the port is created (without a exclamation mark), but in the details the system says, that „it doesn‘t use any resources because there was an error“.
Is it possible at all to install the virtual port, when the Webswitch is at the remote place?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Tom,
Using the Webswitch virtual serial port for a rotor works just fine, I used it for a long time.
I will try to answer your questions:
- You only have one external IP address, so just use the same host name that you do for your RRC. It will be found in your
network by the port number.
- The TCP port is any number you make it. This needs to be forwarded in your router to the Webswitch's internal IP number
- This should not be an issue with an outgoing connection with a firewall, only the Webswitch's router needs the port forwarded
- Once you create the serial port using Microbit Setup Manager, you don't need the program any more. Close it and move to the
client you use for rotor control. Once that program is started using the virtual port number, the connection will take place and
disconnect once you close the client again.
- Note that you can't use the Webswitch's web interface at the same time as the virtual serial port.
If you have any further questions, you can contact me at dj0qn (at) darc.de (natürlich auf Deutsch).

Hello!
I‘m still working on my problem, but can‘t find a solution.
I can install the virtual port in the Microbit Setup manager, but when I press the refresh button, I get the answer that the port is disconnected.
The Windows Device Manager shows the COM port, but in the details the system says, that „it doesn‘t use any resources because there was an error“.
I also tried the MicroBit Device Manager and deleted all „strange“ entries. The log file looks like this now (COM 7 is the virtual port):
