K3 + remoterig on FT8 (and RTTY)
« on: 2019-03-29, 23:52:40 »
hello

I have my remote station with two K3/100 and remoterig boxes working OK for CW and SSB

For SSB I use Elecraft MH2 microphone connected to AUX/MIC connector on front of RRC control

What about FT8?

I can receive, but when on transmitt, radio go to TX, but nof RF out.

I made a cable, RJ45 on one end to connect to AUX/MIC connector on front of RRC control and on the other end 8-pin DIN female that fir on MIC on the front of K3/100 on the control side.

I have a Heil adapter (red cable), in case I can try it, but need to know how

thanks for the help!

Hi Jorge,

It is pretty straight forward and has been asked here many times already:

- Plug a cable in between the sound card's audio output (line out if available) and the RJ45 MIC/AUX
of the control RRC. Take an old ethernet cable and cut off one end to make it easy.
- Plug an audio cable between the control RRC's SPK jack and the sound card's microphone input
   (line in if available).

Thanks Mitch

And which RJ45’s wires are connected to audio connector that plug on sound card?

It’s a mono or stereo connector?

Thanks!

Hi Jorge,

Since it depends upon the way you have the red straps configured, only you can answer that
question. Tip: look at the manual for your microphone and you will see which pins are used for
microphone audio, which is always mono.

i dont know about electronic but.

I do SSB with a Elecraft MH2 microphone and it have this connections, I tested it (see attached file)

I build a cable with a 8-pin DIN female that plug on the K3 front MIC 8-pin DIN male, but doesn´t work.

Now thinking if I need to change MIC SEL on the K3´s MENU.

What is the right MIC SEL and MIC + LIN to be used?

Since my remote K3 right now have rear panel and bias selected and I cannot reach it now, if I made a cable with a 3.5 mm connector, will work? Or may I unselect BIAS?

thanks,
Jorge

Jorge,

I think you are confused how the menu works; when the RRC's (K3's) are connected and you
go into the menu, then you are changing the radio K3 and NOT the control RRC's menu. So when
you change which microphone is used, it is the radio and not the control side.

To change the control side, you must NOT be connected to the radio by removing the COM2 cable
or something else to prevent the two K3's exchanging data. Then the menu will change the control
side.

If you are going into the RRC, then it is irrelevant which menu you use on the control side. The radio side
uses audio from the rear line input.

oK now I understand

So on my radio side I have

MIC SEL = rP.H BIAS
MIC+LIN = OFF

so a cable from RCC control AUX/MIC to K3 control raadio MIC DIN on the front doesnt work?

I need a cable with 3.5 mm connector to go from RCC control AUX/MIC to soundcard, right? But dont know the connections for this cable

Jorge,

I think you want to use your computer for FT8. If so, you should best bypass the K3 and go
directly into the RRC AUX/MIC jack. You can try going through your K3, but I can't say if it
will work or not, even a K3/0 causes problems.

You can best just use the diagram on page 220 of the manual to make up the cable if you have
been using the standard Elecraft microphone and cabling.

you mean page 221 of this manual? http://www.remoterig.com/downloads/RemoteRig_RRC1258-MkII_Users_manual.pdf

I have this cable with RJ45 and 8-pin DIN and doesnt work. But this cable connect to K3 and you told me to not use K3, just RRC to computer cable.

So what is this cable that I need?

thanks,
Jorge

Jorge,

I was referring to the schematic for the pinout to allow you to make a cable. Not literally that
specific cable. yOu asked which connections you need and will find them there.
