Audio breaking
« on: 2011-03-04, 21:33:20 »
Hi
After some learning curve explore in earlier posts was able to get all items to work in remote site and home site. The configuration is as follows:
Remote site – TS480 Radion connected to a 3G router 7.2Mb always on. Good connection to 3G network (0.5km)
Control site – TS-480 Control panel connected to a cable router 2.5Mb
I can get the radio working and made some qsos. My problems are as follows:-
1.   The received audio is breaking every 3ced and not smooth.
2.   When I am transmitting and releasing the PTT the receive audio is like totally distorted for 2-3sec and only then i can here the station.
3.   When transmitting some stations are telling me my audio is breaking.
I pinged the remote site from the control unit router for your ref. Also the radio/control configuration is  RX Jitter buffer 4, Jitter delay 3,  audio packet 20ms

What is the next step?

Hi Ziv,

I personally have never been able to get RemoteRig to work on
any 3G network in Germany. I suspect they somehow block SIP, even
with a non-standard port. VoIP is not allowed here on these networks,
so they must have put some extra effort in to block it. This may also
be your problem.

Hi

1. As you can see you have pingtimes up to more than 3 seconds, that's nothing to do about it it will be breaks in the audio.

2. Some 3G networks take a while before they starts sending continous RTP packets, If you turn on Continuously RTP tx in the Radio-RRC this problem will probably be solved.

3. Set codec to 0 in both ends to save bandwidth, and increase the jitter buffersize and jitterbuffer delay in both ends, then the system vill be more tolerant against jitter. But those 3 seconds latencys will remains as breaks.

I recommended changing to ADSL.
