Title: Winkey on COM1
Post by: TK5EP on 2017-01-24, 17:35:33
Hi all,

I recently bought a RRC1258 set that i'm trying to configure.. So i'm a newcomer here...

I use my PC COM port 1 connected to the COM2 of the control box and setup to interface with my TS590s. That works, everything is just fine.
I setup the keyer and that works with the paddle.

Now i'm looking for a way to setup the Winkeyer on RRC COM1 (virtual COM13 on my PC),because i would like to use the COM3 Extra for RTTY.

I configured LOGGER32 to use COM13 for Winkeyer, but it doesn't find any keyer.

What did i make wrong ? Can't COM1 of the RRC control box be used as a Winkey in parallel with the paddle ? I RTFM and onclued that it is possible...

Or how should i configure to be able to use both Winkeyer and RTTY ?

Patrick,

You can use CAT and Winkey in parallel, no problem. However, you can not use FSK and Winkey at
the same time, you must switch COMEXTRA (COM3) back and forth on the RRC.

Thanks Mitch,

Do i understand it right, that only COMEXTRA can be used for Winkey ?

I thought COM1 could be used for this, according to the manual :
"Mode 8 = The WinKeyer emulator is activated, and data received from COM1 are sent as CW from the Radio-RRC in parallel with the ordinary keyer."

So i have to use 2 profiles, one using COMEXTRA for Winkey and another profile with COMEXTRA for FSK ?

Hi Patrick,

I had never seen that one before, they must have added Mode-8 to the other serial ports and I didn't notice.
I usually use the RRC with a K3, so COM1 is blocked for CAT, therefore I never noticed that this was changed.

So maybe you are right and you can run COMEXTRA/COM3 with FSK and COM1 as Winkeyer, I would just
try it out. Note that it if does work, then it would for sure could only be used using the RRC's USB to COM port
emulator, so a real serial cable on COM1 would likely not work, use the Windows virtual port instead.

If Mike at Microbit wants to confirm this, that would be great.

OK Mitch,

I tried COM1 + Winkey, but that doesn't work in the way i think...
COMEXTRA works perfectly, so there is something i don't understand..

Let's see if the gurus can put some light on that.

So far no luck with an answer.
A private mail to SM2O didn't help either..

I can't help either. I don't understand what you look for. Is there a function which is not working or are you asking for new functionality.

Hi Mike,

I will try to explain the problem. It looks like a bug:

You can also set COM1 or COM2 to mode-8 (Winkeyer), not only COMEXTRA/COM3.

COM3 works, but COM1 and COM2 do not, according to Patrick.

I personally was not aware that the Winkeyer emulation was even available for COM1 or COM2, I had always
thought this was only an option for COM3. So there is a bug that this doesn't work. Either the drop-down
box for COM1 and COM2 needs to be fixed to eliminate that as an option, or else it needs to work.

Ok

I understand, I did not remember that there was a option for Winkeyer at com1 and com2 either. Maybe it's like Mitch say that the selections there has shown up by misstake

OK,

Than, it should be a good idea to correct this...  :)
Combining that with my inexperience, i lost quite some time trying to make this work !
