Title: RRC-1258MKII, CONTROL unit connected via LAPTOP

I would like to use my RRC control unit during travelling, if possible. How can i connect the RRC unit to internett when only wireless connection to internet is possible?
Can i connect it to my laptop by sharing the local network card?  What kind of settings in the RRC do i have to use??

Hi Per,

This has been discussed on this forum quite a few times.

To answer your question, you basically have two choices:

1) As you mentioned, you can share your PC's wireless connection using its ethernet port.
The method to implement this varies by operating system and version, so to explain how
to do so is beyond the scope of this forum. Suggest you use Google to find how to do it.

2) You can connect a WLAN bridge and use that. I personally use the Netgear WNCE2001:

This is inexpensive and works well. However, there are other solutions on the market.

The RRC itself should not need any changes, unless you are on a fixed IP. In that case, I suggest
that you change it to DHCP.

There will soon be an internal WLAN add-on card solution for the RRC, but it is not yet released and
pricing has not been announced.

Thanks for your answer. So what you actually mean, is to connect the WNCE2001 to the RRC unit, and the WNCE2001 to connect with the bluetooth solution on my laptop???

Hi Per,

No, the WNCE2001 or equivalent just replaces the ethernet cable. After you use a PC to
book it into the WLAN, just plug it into the RRC and it connects to the network that way.

Then i understand that the RRC, with such system/unit is connected to internett wireless. But, before that, it is necessary to cable up to the local router/modem to allow the WNCE2001 to connect wireless via the local WLAN.
I also assume i can find info in the instructioan manual to the WNCE2001. :-)

Not quite correct, Per......

You first plug the bridge using the ethernet cable into a PC, then book into the WLAN.
Then you just unplug it from the PC and plug it into the RRC.
