Hello,
recently I purchased a remotering RRC 1258 MKIIS :) connected by internet with:
-Elecraft K3/0 (local radio)
-Elecraft K3/100 (remote radio)
Question: is possible switch ON/OFF the line connection antenna/Elecraft K3/100 remotely (to prevent damage by lightning)?
If the answer is affermative wich is the system more effective to use?
Someone has recommended the use relays but I doubt that could be a lightning protection ... :-\
Thanks

Hi !
I had the same thoughts, and I build me an Webcontrolled Controlled Antenna Connection system.
You can take a lock about my projekt here.... https://sites.google.com/site/sm3jggwebcac/
itīs made of simple easy to find materials.

Hello Staffan,
i check your link....wow compliments for the idea! :)
I try to follows your experience in order to prevent any damage by lightning.
When I ask about the problem all people answer with a negative approach and a lot of fatalism :-\

Hi Luigi
this can be done with RRC-1258 itself when you use the I/O in and outputs
for this, Check my uploads , drawings at the forum.
I putted a K9AY RX switching system here so with that you can start to build your own needs

Hi Staffan,
my compliments for your web controlled Antenna Connection system. Lightning energy is prevented to get into the shack through the coaxial shield. I have not seen that before. You seem to use special N-connectors with no lock nut.

Hello again !
Yes it`s N konnectors,
The only special is that the "locking nut" are removed on one side.
I have made a little movie, showing how everything works, it`s on youtube.

Nice idea Steffan. Just out of curiosity, how do you verify that connectors are fully disconnected, other than not having any signals on any band? I mean how do you specifically know the motor has turned enough to stop at your programmed separation distance? Or do you just use webcam?
