Title: Control with control head
Post by: EA5WA on 2013-12-14, 17:57:49
Is there a possibility to control any transceiver(like yaesu ft2000) with a control head like the tm-d700? I think it could be necessary a kind of translator between the control head and the RRC at control side, but I'm not sure if it could be possible. Any ideas?

The TM-D700 head works just fine with the TS-2000.

Use search for older topics on this subject. There are some serial number limitations.

Thanks Mitch.

I mean using this control head with another transceiver even from another trade as Yaesu,Icom, etc.

I think it could be a good solution for a lot of people with no money for a twin configuration.

Oh, that was not clear, sorry.

You need to take two things into consideration:

1) The protocols are different between the rigs, as well as the controls. A hardware control "head"
would be quite difficult to get working across various brands and types. There is probably no ROI
to make the investment worthwhile.

2) There are not really any "heads" available separately on the market, with the exception of the K3.
The TS-480 kits are no longer being marketed and the RC-2000 is no longer available, at least in Europe.

ok, Mitch, thanks for your explanation.

Maybe it could be done "easily" with an Arduino or Rapsberry pi as a translator between both protocols....but I don't know if the protocols are public and known for everybody.

it's a pity I have no idea about how to do it.
