Title: Dynamic DNS Status: Error Code 9
Post by: EA5WA on 2012-02-01, 17:22:28
Hi everyone:

My system is working with ic-706, but only setting the remote side IP external address in the SIP contact Box. It doesn't work neither with dyndns or ddns.remoterig.

I can see in the radio RRC:

Dynamic DNS Status: Error Code 9

DNS status:   OK, remoterig.com = 193.202.110.185

The Control RRC is always:

DNS status   Error, failed to resolve remoterig.com!

Using the dyndns address I can go into the Radio RRC configuration page, but I can't conect both RRC's.

Any ideas?

The status "DNS status   Error, failed to resolve remoterig.com!" means that the DNS isn't working, and so host names can't be used in SIP Contact, only IP addresses. Check the "DNS server" setting in the control RRC, if it seems ok and it still doesn't work try using another DNS server, for ex those found at http://www.opendns.com/ (http://www.opendns.com/).

And .....what about Error Code 9?

What does that mean?

Just that the Dynamic DNS update process failed in a state labelled "9". It is for our internal use if there is no known reason for the Dymaic DNS update to fail. In this case there is a known reason, a non-functioning DNS.

If you can use the ddns adress from your PC but not from the RRC when they are connected to the same router you have setup the dns wrong in the RRC. check with ipconfig what dns the pc use and set up the RRC so it use the same dns adress as the pc. In 99% of the cases the gateway and the dns adress is the same and = the LAN ip adress of the router.

No, it's not a LAN connection.

My PC is here with my Control RRC connected to Router 1.

140Km away is my radio RRC connected to the router 2. This Router is configured with a dyndns.org address and the DMZ pointing to the Radio RRC IP (192.168.1.150).

When I put the dyndns.org address in my PC browser, I go into the Radio RRC configuration page without any problem and I read the external IP address (writing it down on a paper),

but, when I put that same dyndns.org address in the Control RRC Sip Contact Box, the system doesn't work (no connection and 3 tones sound). It only works if I put the router 2 external IP in the control RRC SIP contact box (the one I read before).

Do you understand my question?

Yes then the DDNS address is OK but the DNS adress on the IP-settings page is wrong. The RRC can not contact the same DNS as your PC. Check what DNS the PC use and set the same into the DNS address field in the RRC.

ddns and DNS is not the same thing

Sorry:

Are you talking about Control RRC or Radio RRC configuration?

Thanks Mike:

You're right. Now the system is working trough dyndns and even with ddns.remoterig!!!!!! Great!

I had the IP router 1 in the DNS Server Box, I thought the router was working as a DNS server. Now I have my DNS server IP (the same is written in the router) in this box (IP settings - - DNS server) and the system is working OK.

I'm learning a lot about routers and IP's with your help.

It's worthy to have a RemoteRig System

Yes, like I and Mike said. The control RRC's DNS(not DDNS) setting had to be fixed as DDNS depends on a working DNS connection.
