Title: Troubleshooting RRC-1258 MkII with IC-7000
Post by: wm1ke on 2014-12-11, 07:04:45
Hello, all.

I have a new 1258 MK II set that I have configured for Generic Icom CI-V.
I will be using BKT-7000 for CAT.

I am trying to trouble soot the fact that the status pages say they are talking to each other but neither do I have working PTT or audio.

The status pages say:
Connection status   OK
SIP status   Connected/transfering
Last SIP error   None
RTP status   Excellent(60)
UDP cmd status   OK(28)

I have checked the software configurations and strapping several times.

No audio comes out of the speaker and when I hold the PTT on the mike and click the status ling for either unit I read that PTT is OFF.

Being disabled I don;t have many options for using diagnostic equipment but would appreciate getting a direction to start looking in.

TIA

Hi

It must be the red straps. Either they are missplaced or broken, check the positions and measure them with a ohm meter. When you check the PTT status you have to manually refresch the status page after you have pressed the PTT button.

Mike:

Thanks.

I did not use straps as my disability made it impossible to insert the wires. I went to Radio Shack and bought  two in-line dip switches. The CI-V strapping is straight-through so I turned "ON" the dip switches that "jumped" the pins and "OFF" those that were open.

I do click "Status" while holding the PTT down but thanks for mentioning it.

I guess I will try to find a local ham to bring over an Ohm Meter,

Thanks, again

Hi
Are you using the HM-151 Microphone ? I checked the schematics for the HM-151 mic and it has no traditional PTT output, Just a data line. So if you are using a HM-151 you must try to find a standard ICOM Mic. The HM-103  which comes with IC-706 can be used direct to the Mic/Aux Jack. The most common icom mic HM-36  can be used with an adapter cable.

Thanks. mike

I got the units to transmit (PTT) and send mic audio over the air. Now the recieve audio is non-existant.

I do have the HM-151. The audio is passing and the PTT is now working, But the mic is not passing the buttons.

To get the mic and PTT working I (my original problem) I removed one of the dip switches and discovered that a pin bent on insertion.

I also modified the jumper settings so that SPKR OUT is jumped. I had hoped that would pass the audio back to the control box but, so far, no go.

Any hints about the recieve audio you could pass along or should I start a new thread for that?

Thanks, again, for your help!

Hi

No the buttons goes via the serial data line so it will not work. PTT should not work either at least with the schematic I found, but there might be different versions of the HM-151.
For the speaker audio you should use a 3.5 mm stereo cable from the IC-7000 speaker jack to the radio-RRC SP jack. And a external speaker connected to Control-RRC SP jack

Mike:
Once again, thanks for your valuable input.

I dont know why my mic works, but it does!  :)

I was trying to route the rx audio internal to the system by strapping the "spkr out" pin in the mic cable, I will bite the bullet and install the cable. At some point I want to connect the RCC to the low level audio output on the back. that way I would cut down on distortion from the rig's (unneeded) audio system.
