Title: Antenna Switch 1289- RF issue
Post by: Mirek VK6DXI on 2014-12-22, 15:39:45
Hi,

I have just attempted to install an Antenna Switch 1289 at my remote location.
There was no issue to make a network connection etc.

When I attempted to use it on HF, at around 220 W out, there was an RF issue and some other relays in the switch started to pick up.

When tested on UHF, 2m FM, it had RF issues at 50 watts (few unselected relays picking up).

I tried to disconnect the network cable, place ferrite on supply, used different power supplies.

It seems to me that an issue is created directly on the antenna switch electronic board.

Anyone experience such an issue and was a cure found?

I am using two web switches 1216 with RAT pack and never had an issue with RF.
Actually until this unit was installed, I had no RF issues with remoterig gear.

Hi Mirek,

Please read the topic AS-1289 RF noise heard on receiver (http://www.remoterig.com/forum/index.php?topic=3072.0) and check Reply #2. This could well be the solution in your case too. Tinning the bare copper rings is a bit tricky.

Good luck and 73

Pse check that the decoupling capacitors placed near each relay is in place and soldered properly. As there are so few solderings at the relay pcb it's hand made and there are always a risk for errors then. And the final tests are not done with high power today so it will not show up then.

Thanks for the comments.

I do not experience any noise from the logic board as AG7C did.
Visual inspections shows that all capacitors are in place.
Getting to the other side of the board will require undoing of all nuts on the coax sockets.

Relays do not pick up by themselves, as the led's come up as well, indicating that issue is rather on the logic board.

I will try to grounding of logic board first and will see if it works.

You don't need to undo the coax sockets. There are cables between the sockets and the logic board. Just follow AG7C:s instructions.
