Title: Saving / Restoring RRC-1258 MKII settings
Post by: K5WK Ken on 2015-01-09, 00:17:49
Fellows, I only know enough to get myself in trouble, so please bear with me.
I have a setup that works well in connecting to my own K3 home station.  I use the K0 mini and RRC-1258 MKII at the control station.
I have not touched it in a couple of years and have forgotten much of what I once had learned. (Getting old.)
I want to also setup so I can connect to other K3 stations.
First order of business is to not mess up what is working.  How do I save and load configurations for my control station?

Hi Ken,

Go to the RRC's web page. Look on the left for "profiles". You can save up to five profiles
for different target radios using a different profile per station. Here are some tips:

- Name the profiles on the right
- Save the current profile to a name you can remember BEFORE switching to a new one
- Save the profile using the menu "export as BIN"
- Only then switch to the next profile and restart the RRC
- then either import the new profile using "import BIN", or enter your configuration manuall
- Then save that profile under a different name for backup purposes

You can then switch back and forth between them.

Success. I used MBSM to get to "net Info/find", exported as .bin, and imported it.  All appears fine.
How do I now associate this file name as "profile 1"?  Perhaps this is not really necessary?

You need to switch to profile1, which you should have previously renamed per my instructions. Then import and
all is fine.

Something went wrong.
I exported .bin my configuration.
I imported .bin a new configuration, and used it successfully to connect to a different k3.

Then I wanted to reload the original configuration.
I imported it .bin, restarted the RRC, and now I hear the disconnect tones when I power on the K0.
I powered down everything including the computer, and tried it again.  No luck!
Is there an easy way out of this?

I can't tell from your description, but it looks like you didn't follow my tips.

Let me try it another way: the save and load of BIN files always affects only the current profile that you are using
at the time. You must always switch profiles before loading a different profile, otherwise the other profile will be
overwritten.

Note that you can also switch profiles using Microbit Setup Manager, but no more than switch between them. It is always important
to name them as the first step as I pointed out before.

Good luck!

I knew somehow I would find a way to foul this up.

Steps I took:
MBSM to net info page.
Selected profile 2, renamed it HOME.
Did export bin.  Named the file HOME.  Then moved it to a folder for safe keeping.

Upon trying to return to it later,  went to the net info page.  pushed profiles button.
Selected HOME, then import .bin.

Was this incorrect?

Hi Ken,

I really don't get what you mean. It looks to me that you exported a file, then reimported it to
the same profile, which doesn't make sense.

I think you need some Teamviewer support. Drop me a mail directly at dj0qn (at) darc.de and I
can see when I have some time the next couple of days. I am still at my Florida QTH.

My wording.  I tried to return to it later after having used a different profile to connect to another station.
I ran the problem down to being a password problem.  Now both profiles are updated and working.
Thanks for your help.
