Title: Kenwood TS480 - VOX does not work
Post by: py2xb on 2018-06-16, 19:53:06
Hi Guys.

I am testing a remote station in my house. So using LAN at this point.
The radio is a TS480 with remote head. Using the configuration  in the manual regarding Radio. It is working fine on CW and RTTY. On CW I use BK-IN (Vox on)
On SSB, it works fine with the stock microphone when the microphone's PTT is pushed. It does not work under VOX. With VOX ON the radio does not go to TX in any circunstance.

I have tested the head connected directly to the radio and VOX works fine.

I suspected it could be an issue with the mic jumpers (MIC GND issue) and I have tried jumpers for new and old TS480. Same behavior. I am not sure when the unit that I have has been manufactured

Any light on this is appreciated

Thanks Fred PY2XB

Fred,

Set both RRC's RTP TX mode to continuous to make VOX work.

Thanks Mitch. It worked at once. What is the difference between RTP Normal/Continous, if you may.

Hi Fred,

I only use the magic, I didn't create it  ;)

Mike should explain that if you want more detail. BTW, this is an example of questions that come up from time to time
so anyone thinking about asking a question on the forum should search it first.

Mitch before asking I have searched in the forum and I have not found answer for it. It is in the manual, but not straight forward. It sounds easy after you know what to do...

Hi Fred, no big deal, just it would help a lot (I mean in general and not only you) if people would use the
search function first.

For example:

Mitch I did not say it was not there. I just said I did not find it. One thread was "TS-480 vox". Sorry, I have  searched "TS480 vox".

I found many answers to my questions in previous posts in the forum, btw. The Forum is a great resource and I do not want to be discouraged to ask questions when I do not find them, even if they exist. I'll definitely look for  answers before asking. Fred

Fred,

You and everyone else is welcome to ask anything at any time. I was just pointing out that the forum is a great resource
and that one should first try the search function first to save time. I was just using this as an example, because it is a
common question.

Please don't take it personally and continue to ask anything that you want.
