Hi everybody,

for debug purposes I just was experimenting with the On/Off setting under I/O settings.
I'm wondering what does "On" or "Off" mean?

From the Manual I can see that there is only the transistor connected to the output but
no pull-up etc. So does "On" mean that the transistor is activated (Out is "connected" to
ground)?

Hi Carl,

I have a site-to-site VPN for my setup using Routers made by Lancom and I'm very happy with it. No problems with Dynamic DNS etc.

You haven't specified what kind of connection problems you have in your setup but I learned that for a reliable connection it is helpful to implement some QoS rules so that traffic from and to the remote station is prioritized.

I'm not sure if that is the reason but as far as I know the ERC uses 4800Bd not 9600Bd.

Hi Mike,

just did some more debugging and I think I found the reason for the additional delay inbetween the characters sent.

Winkey echos back the characters it sends. Win-Test as well as Logger32 wait for the echo of each single character before sending the next one. My original K1EL Winkey takes about 28ms to echo back a single character, the "Winkey emulation" in the RRC takes about 380ms. I hope that helps when looking into that problem.

Configuration, RRC 1258 / Differences after FW-update

Hi everybody,

today I updated my pair of RRCs that I'm using successfully for several years already from FW 2.06 to FW2.68. Comparing the settings from the old FW with the settings of the new FW I found some differences I can not explain. Maybe someone else can help:

1. Before the update the SetupManager showed: Version 004, Firmware 000.000.002.006, Bootloader N/A, HW 004
After the update the SetupManager showes: Version 003, Firmware 000.000.002.068, Bootloader N/A, HW 004

So Version decreased from 4 to 3! What does that mean?
What about the Bootloader. Is there a need for updating it as well?


2. In Keyer Settings I was using 100 for "Lf delay ms", after the update I needed to increase the value to 150 to get the TRX monitor muted correctly. As it is related to RTT of the internet connection I'm surpriesed that I hat to change that value.

Any info would be nice. Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike,

today I went to the remote station and updated the RRC to the current firmware V2.68. During the update process I noticed some interesting things but I will start a new thread on that as it is not related to the initial question about Winkey.

For Winkey support. Yes I now can find the selection Winkey for the serial ports. I selected it for COM2 and started my Log Program (Win-Test). Win-Test notifies me that it found a Winkey23 on the selected port. So far so good.

First of all it looks like there is only a subset of commands implemented (yet), e.g. changing the speed via software commands is not possible and speed changes via the speed pot of the RRC are not echoed back to the software. But that is not a real problem. Main "problem" for now is, that it looks like the RRC inserts some space between the characters, i.e. instead of sending "CQ de DJ4MZ" it sends "C Q d e D J 4 M Z". I also tried Logger32 instead of Win-Test but it is the same.

During my experiments I noticed that it is impossible to change the serial settings for the Winkey port in the RRC. You can select all values but after saving and restarting the RRC it comes back with 1200Bd8N1. Winkey by default uses 1200Bd8N2! Changing to 1200Bd8N1 in Win-Test seems to decrease the length of the additional space, but I'm not sure.

I would be happy if at least the "additional space problem" could be solved in on of the next FW releases. If you need any other input from my side, additional tests etc. just let me know!

Hi Mike,

thanks for that information. From the current users manual I can not see the Winkey option. Where can it be found?

Anyway my RRCs are still on FW 2.6 (not 2.60)! As I have had quite some trouble when I tried to update the last time I decided not to update the boxes anymore  Do you have any experience with updating from an FW version that is that old? What if the update fails and is there a way back?

Hi everybody,

currently I'm trying to add a Winkey-Interface (WK1, serial) to the remote station. The WK is located at the remote side and I would like to connect it via one of the RRC serial ports (COM2) to my computer on the control side. The K1EL WKSetup-Tool sometimes states "No Echo" or "Echo Mismatch", Win-Test sometimes states that no WK is found and sometimes that it has found a WK but then only sends garbage.

COM-Port currently is set to mode 3, 1200 Baud, 8N2.

Has anyone here succeded in using a Winkey via RRC COM?

Hi Dave,

there is a simple software that comes with the interface. It works great for me in a standalone kind of operation.

As the Interface is compatible with the Hygain DCU-1 and Yaesu GS232B protocol you can use almost every software that can use these protocols.

Hi Don,

you mentioned that you have disabled the Win7 firewall. Did you restart your computer after disabling the firewall? Under WinXP I learned that disabling the firewall required a reboot to make the changes take effect. Maybe that helps narrowing down the problem.

Hi Robert,

I have seen that problem with my IC-706 also. Solution in my case: I keep the power on button pressed for about half a second to power up. In my case that work in maybe 99 cases out of 100.

BTW: What is the latency in your network? In my case its around 30ms.

Hi Akira-San, hi Mitch,

I never have seen the 706 (I use an 706MK2 if that matters, but I don't think so) toggle power on and off.

Maybe these questions help to narrow down the problem:
1. Does the radio really power off or does the display go blank, i.e. what about the audio stream. Is it still up (check the LEDs of the RJ45 connector where the frontpanel is connected).
2. What does the status page of the RRCs show when the radio is shutting down (control panel/radio on/off)?
3. What about the Internet connection on both sides (bandwidth, reliability of connection etc.)?

Hi Mitch et al,

doesn't the control RRC try to reconnect after it looses connection to the radio RRC? If so, then rebooting won't help as the active control RRC will connect as soon as the radio RRC is back online.

Hi Nathan,

a blinking green LED (I think you are talking about the PWR LED) indicates a problem with the DNS setup. See http://www.remoterig.com/forum/index.php?topic=637.msg2445#msg2445.

When moving the control RRC from the local LAN at the radio site to your control site make sure that you change the IP settings to match the network at the control site!
