Does the setup connect on the local network?

Did you change the default connection from fixed to DHCP?  Are you connecting to your home network?  How did you configure the RR boxes?   Did you open the necessary ports on the router at the remote site?   Do you have the correct IP address for the remote site?  Did you set up DDNS or a similar FQDN service?

Things I can report: 1) Version 6 boards work with the K3 Twin configuration.  There is no JMP5 on these boards but it doesn't seem to make any difference.  2) Small configuration errors keep it from working.  I discovered one setting that was incorrect, then the system came to life.  3) be careful if you "roll your own" DB15 cable.  Remember in a standard configuration of an RJ45 that pins 4 and 5 are blue and blue stripe, opposite of all the other pairs.   If you are crimping your own RJ45 you can set it up any way you like, but the standard "B" configuration has the blue pair reversed.

I will start rigorously testing this setup today, everything except the mic.   I don't work SSB as a general rule.

Thanks for the bandwidth.  Sometimes laying out the problem leads to a solution.

General discussion forum / K3 with K3/0
« on: 2025-10-31, 19:49:51 »
I recently acquired a K3 and was subsequently given a K3/0 to pair with it.  I can't seem to get them to communicate.  I know from previous experimentation that the K3 can be started remotely, and that my RemoteRig boxes can send CW to the radio and receive audio back from the radio.  I have double-checked all my cables to be sure they are correct, and I have double-checked the settings for the RR boxes.  Here is what I have noted:

1. These are RR Mark II revision 6. SN 5096 on the radio side and SN 5170 on the control side.  In configuring these, I cannot find JMP5 in either of these units.  Is this version compatible with the K3 Twin configuration, and is there something I can configure to this jumper?

2. If I turn on the radio, the RR boxes still send audio to each other, but I have to control with the K3/0 over frequency, mode, or other parameters  Anyone have any suggestions as to where to look?

These RR boxes were updated with v2.95 firmware and bootloader 1.10.

Hardware, Cabling, Installations / replacement jumper wires
« on: 2025-07-08, 01:29:33 »
I have a pair of remote rig boxes that came without any jumper wires.  I have confirmed that the basic functions of RR work, by sending CW over the internet and using the RR boxes for audio and keying.

What can be used for replacement jumper wire to configure these boxes to be fully functional with a K3 K3/0 combination?  I need to source this wire in the USA.  I haven't had much luck to date.  Suggestions?

Many thanks,

Follow-up on remote operation.  The RR pair has been working very well for remote CW operation.  The control app I have been working on with W7DA is coming along nicely.  It is now reasonably compact and has most but not all of the functions I need to operate the radio, without the need of another K4, K4/0 or VK4.   Image is attached and code is open and available on Github.

Perfect.  I'm mainly a CW op, but it would be nice to use the mic if I wanted to.

Thank you!   I will give this a try.  What about jumpers in the units?  Is there a configuration for these, perhaps the K3 configuration?

This topic has been dormant for a while but I'm wondering if something is possible with the K4.  With a couple of TCP/IP utilities plus Hamlib, I have control of virtually every aspect of my K4 from anywhere, but I lack a couple of important things.
- audio streaming (not implemented outside K4 to K4)
- CW keying (I can do this with keyboard input, but I'd like remote keying, ala RemoteRig)
- remote mic input (not high on the list since I work almost exclusively CW)

Would it be possible to use RR boxes "headless" for audio streaming, i.e., to have RR box taking audio from the radio at the remote end and providing keying, and only the RR box at the user end providing audio and keying?  I already have full CAT control of the rig through my logging program and an SSH tunnel. With another ham I am working on a Python clone of K4 Macromaster.  I can turn the radio on and off remotely with some other utilities I developed.  The audio and the keying components are the only thing missing.

The audio output of the K4 has many options, including front and rear headphone jacks, and line in/line out.

I have an RRC-1258 Rev 6 pair.

Konfiguration av RRC 1258 / Re: xiegu G90 with remoterig?
« on: 2023-05-26, 20:16:49 »
Has anyone made any progress with using Remote Rig and the G90?  My IC-7100, that I was using as my remote station, just quit working and needs to go for repairs.  I have a G90 I could substitute if anyone has managed to create a working configuration.
